About this listen

Deke dreams of a better life, and that means money.

Money and influence like the type earned by those who play at the peak of the sport he loves. The elites of the NBA.

A small-town kid from a trailer park in Canada, Deke already had all the odds stacked against him. Even with his slim chances, he got recruited as a scholarship athlete. He joined the University of San Pandero in California and took his first step on his road to the top. He was flying high until he landed wrong. The doctor's planned recovery time ruined his season. That changed Halloween night when Deke tried to save a teammate. His hobbled flight from the goons beating up Ronnie would change his life forever.

The harrowing escape ends when Deke finds an unknown needle sticking out of his leg. Uncovering the syringe, he discovers its contents already injected, and a video game-like message scrolls by with a deadly ultimatum.

Deke makes the only choice he can and downs the vial of glowing blue liquid in a single gulp....

I’m shocked

I accidentally got this book because the cover was interesting and I didn’t read the summary, but it was the best accident ever. The story was a fun ride even with all the sport ball talk which now that I think about it, I still have no idea what happened on the court. Go baguettes!

It's About the Story...

First off, I want to make it clear that basketball is on the bottom of my list for professional sports. So, me listening to a book based on the sport is significant to start. But this book is worth it.

It is the story and the true emotions of the characters that drive this book. They all feel real with personalities and perspectives that make sense for them. The situations and emotional drive of this book just hooked me and kept me locked-in.

Every motivation amd every flaw for every character in this book feels real. That is really what makes their growth so fascinating to watch.

if you are like me and would normally pass this book up because it's a sports theme, you are missing out terribly. Give it a listen and you'll be just as hooked as I have been.

If Carl Deuker Wrote LitRPG

This was just fantastic. I never knew I needed this sub genre but now can’t imagine a more perfect fit. My favorite author of my youth by a substantial was Carl Deuker, who wrote sports fiction centered around high school athletes. These days, I listen exclusively to LitRPG, cultivation, and progression fantasy. Freshman Drive blends these to perfection and is just barely getting started. Throw in the fact they landed my favorite Narrator/Performer, THE Travis Baldree, for the audiobook, and it’s an absolute SLAM DUNK (horrible pun intended 😂🤣😂

loved it

I enjoyed this book alot it's very fast-paced however give you more than enough detail to not feel lost or or make the book feel disjointed. I absolutely can't wait for the next book and can't recommend you check this book out enough.

good litrpg with a twist

this isn't your standard litrpg but it takes you into a different world from the normal game like setting. The sport seeing hands you and drags you in.

Love the real growth in the mc

I loved how the main character was written with clear flaws, not because the writer actually believes that everything this mc does is right, but because it gives the character realism and relatability. This is outlined in his overthinking about what people around him think and why he thinks they’re wrong etc. followed by him slowly coming to his senses and improving. Also if you’re looking for the litrpg aspect, it’s there and prominent. This is a very satisfying book and narrator. Props to the author!

its ok, but …

ok story … its just, i don’t like how the authors strong arm the mc into everything… even if you think can’t react don’t mean you can’t .. thats just psychological war far … and the younger crowd that reads this will believe that stuff … teach your readers to stand up for themselves… thats what bugs me … its like making a nation of sheep/cattle nothing good will come of that
