About this listen

The Marquess of Chatton and his neighbor Fenella Fairclough have known each other all their lives. They refused to marry each other years ago when their parents demanded it, and they won't concede now - even if circumstances have brought these former enemies much closer than they ever could have anticipated....

I lied how at various times there seemed to be resolution to the mystery year the story continued until the ultimate conclusion. I didn’t like that in the face of life threatening situations the woman stubbornly stayed apart from her husband and the safety of the group. But the outcome required this seemingly mindless attitude.

Intriguing yet enjoyable

The idea of 2 people finally realizing they were meant to be was a good start. The story plods along pretty well, the romance a bit bland though. The problem was the end...it didn't make sense that the FMC would be left alone after they realize she is a target. The rescue is pretty ridiculous too. Disappointing... I could have skipped this one. if there wasn't such a wonderful narrator the stars maybe 2 or 1.

Eh, not near as good as book 1 & 2

She had no options and snubbed her nose at the one option that she wanted and made sense! Ugghhhhh, I don’t like women who send mixed messages thinking they’re being smart & independent. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Roger was a little dumb witted… he couldn’t understand or do anything worthwhile….. I like the story line just not the main characters.

Heroine is annoying!

This story moved along fairly well until the last three or so hours. Even though I understand that the author wanted some drama during the story's last few hours, the drama is not thought out in a logical way. The victim of an attempted attack will logically stay close to friends and family (a husband will naturally stay close) - this husband didn't and this victim didn't!? The storytelling devices authors use, to push a storyline in the direction they want the story to go, must still be feasible and somewhat logical. Otherwise the author loses credibility and the story falls flat and thereby the listener is disappointed... Narrator Rosalyn Landor gives an excellent performance as usual.

Illogical Last Quarter

I’m loving the series. I like the regency era and the narrator and the fact that there are stories without all the detail sex scenes.

Great series

Ok...of course all the action and adventure happened in the last few chapters. I wish it had happened sooner. This will not stop me from listening to the next book.

This story was a fun listen like the other stories by this author. I enjoyed this simple story line and the common ending. I won’t tell you what that if you don’t know.

A light enjoyable story

This the 3rd book, in this series. I am a huge fan of Mary Balogh and Julia Quinn, and regency era stories. It has been a struggle to get into this series. Just not a fan of this author’s style of writing. Considering the time period, there are several flaws throughout this story.

Rosalyn Landor saves this listen, once again.

This story is so flawed.
