About this listen
Samantha Bee wants to talk about menopause.
Okay, she actually doesn’t want to, but she must. Half of the world’s population will spend one third of their lives in it, yet it’s been completely shrouded in secrecy—until now. The Emmy Award-winning host of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee shares everything she has learned in her new one-woman show, How to Survive Menopause. Because everyone needs that one best friend who will keep it real for them—like, really real. Performed for a sold-out crowd at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre and now available in audio, this is the hilarious, soothing salve you didn’t know you needed. It’s perfect for anyone who is going through it, has gone through it, will go through it, or knows someone who has. Basically, the entire population.
Available in Dolby Atmos on Audible.

We all have things in our life that we should know by now, but don’t. Absences in our knowledge and skillset that are frankly shameful in an adult. Things that would be too embarrassing to ask anyone to explain – except our very best friend. Listen in as Mel and Sue tackle their ignorance head on, asking each other to explain something that they still don’t know - but absolutely, as adults, should - from how to parallel park to fully understanding bread (why has it got all those holes in it? What, honestly, is yeast?).

At thirty-six, Naomi Watts had just completed filming King Kong and was trying to start a family when she was told that she was on the brink of menopause. It is estimated that seventy-five million women in the United States are currently dealing with menopause symptoms (dry itchy skin, raging hormones, night sweats), and yet the very word “menopause” continues to be associated with stigma and confusion. With so little information, many women feel unprepared, ashamed, and deeply alone when the time comes. This is the book Naomi Watts wishes she had when she first started experiencing symptoms.

Lana Fleming’s sister has vanished from the set of TV’s hottest show, and no one seems to care. Desperate for answers, Lana sneaks in as an extra, only to get stranded with Griffin Hart, an A-list action star with a reputation for good abs and bad decisions. Though Griffin didn’t expect to be cast as a librarian’s sidekick in a real-life thriller, he’s weirdly into it—and into her. Even more unsettling—she sees right through his playboy persona. But their meet-cute soon turns deadly when they uncover a Hollywood scandal for the ages.

Story
Humpback whales are among the most intelligent animals on Earth. Some scientists believe they might even surpass humans in self-awareness, empathy, and communication skills. In this episode, we swim with a whale as he teams up with other humpbacks to use bubbles to catch fish, rescues a sea lion, and puts his own spin on melodies sung by whales across the Pacific Ocean. This is the world in its natural state, defined by seasons, routines, and cycles. By the time this whale is ready to close one eye and go to sleep, you will be too.

Critics have called her “sweet, adorable, and vicious.” But there is so much more to be said about Samantha Bee. For one, she’s Canadian - whatever that means. And now, she opens up for the very first time about her checkered Canadian past. With charming candor, she admits to her Lennie from Of Mice and Men-style love of baby animals, her teenage crime spree as one-half of a car-thieving couple, and the fact that strangers seem compelled to show her their genitals.

Menopause hit Darcey Steinke hard. First came hot flashes. Then insomnia. Then depression. As she struggled to understand what was happening to her, she slammed up against a culture of silence and sexism. Some books promoted hormone replacement therapy. Others encouraged accepting the coming crone. Beyond that, there was little that offered a path to understanding menopause in a complex, spiritual, and intellectually engaged way.

You'll see yourself here
A disclaimer - I've loved Sam for decades so I pretty much knew I'd like this, regardless of the subject. But as a 54 year old struggling with many of the menopause issues Sam describes, I felt seen. Menopause is a little different for everyone, but you'll see something of yourself here if you're going/have gone through "the change." There's some advice - some serious, some less serious - but hearing menopause discussed so openly, frankly, and hysterically is a refreshing change. I've made it my mission to talk about menopause to normalize it. Half the world's population goes through it but we don't really talk about it and we certainly haven't been studying it. That needs to change! So listen to Sam's stories, laugh, commiserate, research, talk to your doctor, and share your true experiences with others!

Funniest most accurate description I’ve ever heard!
Pure talent to be able to convey such a traumatic period in a woman’s life in such a funny accurate relatable manner! I haven’t laughed this much in ages! Simply brilliant!

Finally, Itching Ear Canals!!
She speaks the truth. I have not had traditional Menopause symptoms, like the hot flashes and mood swings, but dammit if my ear canals have not been itching like crazy for past few years, along with stress incontinence and frozen shoulder....It's like she called everything out. I laughed for 3 hours. This audiobook is fantastic!
