About this listen

Fight fantasy monsters in epic tournaments, gain fame in colosseums across the galaxy, cross swords with blademasters, chainsaw wielding cyborgs, and … Peewee Herman?

In 2488, Battle Quest, an arrow shooting, sword fighting, magic slinging live action RPG, is the most popular sport in the universe.

Tal works in a trash dump by day and fights in a street samurai pit by night. He dreams of becoming a Battle Quest pro to pull his sisters and grandmother from the slums. Problem is he’s too short, too broke, and his highlight vid-reel has more fails than an ogre’s got warts.

Hilde steamrolls the amateur circuits. She goes off-planet to join a minor league team only to discover they’re better equipped for butt-shaking than sword-swinging.

When Hilde’s humiliating match goes galactic viral, and when Tal becomes a washed-up agent’s last hope, they both get their big breaks—rookie free agent tryouts at the Cyrus Supernovas training camp.

To make the team they’ll need unorthodox training. They’ll need to avoid death by lava troll. They’ll need a seriously good game of rock, paper, scissors.

Best book I’ve read in years!

Richard has a written a masterpiece of science fiction, I was hooked by the first chapter and it just kept getting better. It has layers of complexity and character development that took you on the ride of a lifetime. I burned through it I 3 days…. And can’t wait to continue the ride in the next one. A must read for fans of the genre!

2nd listen since released ❤️

So much fun. All the nostalgic sci-fi references makes it even better for me! Great narration to!

Fun read. Good Story and Characters

My daughter knows I am a Science Fiction fan (Heinlein, Asimov, Clark) but I enjoy a Science Fantasy book once in a while. This had great characters and the story line moved well. I would read a followup story but those can be hard to make interesting after the first one. Will watch for more from this new author !

An amazing start to an amazing series

I love the simplicity of the story and yet Richard winds in all sorts of twists and turns to keep his readers on their toes. I never felt like I reached a good point to stop reading because it just flows so dang well. the characters are likable the villains relatable and the whole thing feels like it could really happen. definitely give this a read or 3 you won't regret it
