About this listen

The Memo is the much-needed career advice guide for women of color specifically, finally ending the one-size-fits-all approach of business books that lump together women across races and overlook the unique barriers to success for women of color.

In a charismatic and relatable voice, Minda Harts brings her entrepreneurial experience as CEO of The Memo to audio, as well as her past career life as a fundraising consultant to top colleges across the country. With wit and candor, Harts begins by acknowledging the ugly truths that keep women of color from getting the proverbial seat at the table in corporate America: micro-aggressions, systemic racism, white privilege, etc. Harts validates that women aren't making up the discrimination they feel, even if it isn't always overt. From there, she gives straight talk on how to address these issues head-on and provides a roadmap to help women of color and their allies make real change to the system. With chapters on network-building, office politics, money, and negotiation, this overview covers all the basics that any good business book should. But through the author's lens, it offers support and long-overdue advice particularly for women of color.

This is good information but not really directed towards women in the C-Suite. If I had this in my 20’s it would have been more helpful. After a few years in corporate America you already “get this”

I’ve been listening to quite a few, women empowerment & leadership books, this was the first one I came across that wasn’t just “motivational ”, or “cheerleader-ish”... it gave real practical advice, steps and resources to advance your career in this corporate jungle. I’m the only Woman in my group, partnered with being the only black Woman on my floor. And I can count the # in my building. And this is a Fortune 10 company in 2019. Minda’s book was hard to listen to sometimes, I did have to turn it off, because you can literally hear the pain in her voice as she recalls some of her worst work moments. Though I haven’t experienced these things personally in the work place, as a black woman, I’m never too far removed from fear of discrimination or biast. Thank you Minda for having the courage to create this book, and for the resources and roadmap you provide. I encourage any woman of color in a corporate environment interested in taking their career to the next level to read it as well.

This book is a very important book. It was recommended by a Latina professor in a doctoral program. I found it to be exceptionally relevant for people of color striving for success in fields typically dominated by our white counterparts.

Amazing work

I commend Minda on being transparent and honest about what is keeping black women out of the c-suite and out of the executive ranks. Definitely great book for women to see that moving ahead requires more than just stellar performance.

This was a great book that came with perfect timing in my life. Reading this book reminded me that I wasn't crazy and that my experiences as a women of color were real. I appreciate Minda for going the extra mile to guide us on how to navigate the broken system that has been designed to try and break us. Her guidance, resources and many insights are invaluable.

A true treasure of its time and arguably the best book of the decade. Minda Harts slays as she facilitates a much overdue conversation regarding how women of color are to create their seat at the workplace table, while unapologetically holding white counterparts accountable for making sure that they are on the right side of HERSTORY.

SAY MY NAME... MAKE IT RAIN GLASS CEILING!!!

I’ll see you ladies at the table.

A Great Message, Like a great song, makes for enjoyable & easy listening. I hear your voice & see your passion in my own experiences. At times, the messages lost resonance, as if you were getting sleepy while reading. While I get your love for current music & the genius of some lyrics, some of the references were lost on me & maybe others of the older generation. It Doesn't make the quotes any less meaningful to the actual points they referenced. Over All, I found much to digest & can apply right this moment! Thank You for sharing your heart, wisdom & talent & may God Continue to Bless you.

Great Book, Soo Necessary, Thank You!
