About this listen

Charlaine Harris' popular Southern Vampire mysteries have been described by Publishers Weekly as "humorous Southern-fried fantasy" with a little bit of romance.

In the follow up to Dead Until Dark, telepathic friend of the undead (and vampire bar cocktail waitress) Sookie Stackhouse puts her newfound powers to the test. After an unfortunate incident, Sookie finds herself beholden to a group of Louisiana vampires. So she agrees to travel to Dallas with her undead boyfriend Bill and track down a missing vamp, but only if the vampires promise to let local humans go unharmed. That seems easier said than done when an upstart religious cult threatens to destroy all things vampire - including Sookie, who is quickly scheduled for sacrifice.

She makes the unbelievable believable!

Sookie Stackhouse Series is a MUST read! I have listened/read all of the Sookie Stackhouse mysteries, 1 - 8. I enjoyed every single one of them. The writing is good, clear, suspenseful and humorous. The narrator, Johanna Parker, does some of the best narrating I have heard...exactly the way I would presume Sookie Stackhouse would sound. You can't go wrong with this series. I CAN'T WAIT until installment NINE!!

Differences

As I listened to this audio book, Living Dead in Dallas, I couldn't help but compare it to the television adaptation, True Blood. I have to say that in this instance, the series is much better than the book, which I found odd considering that in my opinion, 9 out of 10 times the book is much better. It's a great book, but Alan Ball the director of True Blood has done an outstanding job of making the series much less boring than the books and giving it the flair and drama that the books lack. I give the book a thumbs up, but I give the series 2 thumbs up.

Great!!

This 2nd book in the Sookie Stackhouse series was really suspenseful and I think I may have liked it even better than the first because it was so fast paced. I like the continuation of Sookie and Bill's love story though find the development of Eric somewhat intriguing and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series to see where their relationship goes.

I am a huge Sookie fan!

Would you listen to Living Dead in Dallas again? Why?

maybe....it moves really slow in some places, I still loved it, but the first book was better..

What was one of the most memorable moments of Living Dead in Dallas?

I laughed a LOT when they went to the swingers party....TOTALLY not Sookies scene..but she is so brave even when she is really being tormented...you have to respect that!!

Which character – as performed by Johanna Parker – was your favorite?

I really do think Sookie is a great character...and I love that she was brought to life for us!! And Eric is a close 2nd... Johanna Parker is GREAT!!!!!!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I wouldnt say moved me, but I did enjoy and thought it was really sweet how Eric and Bill take care of Sookie after she is kidnapped...and when Godfrey aka Goderick met the sun...

Any additional comments?

I started book 3 today and am already 3 hours in....so just remember when you are at a slow part in book 2, book 3 sucks you in quick and is awesome to look forward too!!!!!

As a Black reader I was uncomfortable on some parts

However at the same time it, the disregard and diminishing concern for a black victim made it more like real life. Even though justice was tied up pretty with a bow at the end. Kinda. I do plan on reading the next book.

I Love Sookie Stackhouse!!!

I waited to write a review until I listened to all 12 books. I loved them all. Sookie is a breath of fresh air small town girl who has had problems in the past with romance because she has the gift of reading minds. Imagine going on a date and hearing everything the guy was thinking... Not good. With vampires out of the closet, she finds she can't read vampire minds. Finally she can have true romance. There is also Mystery, Murder, and Mayhem and more supernatural creatures to be revealed!
I loved all the characters and how the story unfolded through all the books. It was bitter sweet that it had to come to an end. I was going to watch True Blood on HBO until friends told me it wasn't nearly as good as the books and had way too much porn!! I will leave the same review for all twelve books. Sookie just wouldn't be Sookie without Johanna Parker, I loved her voice!

Delicious

Exciting, nerve wracking and enthralling. I can’t wait to read the next one! The tidbits they give of the next book just make it impossible not to go on. Each book shows Sookie growing and becoming her own woman more and more.

Road Trip to Texas.

I have read this entire series before, but I had not listened to them so here I am now listening to them. I like the first 7 books in the series best. This one is sad because Lafayette gets killed and I just love his character in the TV series, too bad. Anyway this is the book where my love for Eric started and it only gets stronger with the series. I am defiantly team Eric not Bill. Narrator does a great job very vivid in her telling.
