About this listen

Magelord Alexander Mason has ruled Northridge for eighty years, his unique offworld magic crushing all enemies and bringing prosperity to his people. Malkin, firstborn son and heir apparent, has every intention of succeeding his father. For Devon, distant greatson of the old Magelord, such politics are far removed—until he unexpectedly claims the offworld power as his own.

But not all are pleased by Devon's accomplishment.

As hostile adversaries and shifting loyalties align against House Mason, Devon must rely on both his formidable magic and the love of two women to uncover the plot against him and stay alive.

A new favorite

Although that ending was unexpected ...like super WTF!?!?! kina vibes
...but I enjoyed the whole book, including the ending, and I feel a powerful need to hear what happens next to Djevon.

I'm not one to seek out romance stories either ...I like intricate systems of magic, and creative uses of magic within those systems, I like seeing the powers/abilities develop, and I'm a sucker for a good action scene ...and this book has all of that in spades + it also has a really out of the box kinda love story that ties in really well to the magic side of things and the political intrigue.

Narrator did a great job, I also appreciated the lil musical touches here and there in the recording.
All in all, this was really done. Great writing, great story-telling. Highly recommend. Totally worth the credit!!!

Pretty good Adult political male power Scifi High Fanatsy

Yeah, when I need seven words to describe a book, it's gonna be difficult to review. I believe their is an audience for this book, but it's niche, as if you are looking for: romance, politics, mystery, dueling, fantasy, charactergrowth. They are their, but they pop in and out for different periods of time. Like it throws alot of concepts and ideas out there, but doesn't really stick with them consistently throughout the whole story. The MCs love life is a great example.

I wouldn't say this is a disappointing read, it leaves you with a pretty good cliff ending for book 2, although the build up to it was... something.

The real standout here is the Audio production. The team added additional sounds & music. I am aware this can be a deal breaker to some, but this team uses them sparring for only the high & low moments. It really accentuated scenes through out my listening experience. That alone, I believe to be worth a listen if you are on the fence with this one.
