A must read LitRPG!

I feel like the Shattered Sword is a must read for anyone who enjoys LitRPG stories! It stands out in a way that I wouldn't have expected, and I love it.

First, there is a large lack of female MCs in LitRPG books, and this book not only brings an amazing female MC, but follows it up with strong and amazing female supporting characters. That isn't what makes the book great and unique though. What makes it stand out is that instead of following around this uniquely overpowered character that stands out from everyone else, like many LitRPG series do, you follow this mostly common girl who is just starting out in the game. She isn't very unique, in fact, she is very real. She has some real life issues, both current and past that she needs to deal with, and she doesn't have any friends. You follow her story both in game and out. She meets NPCs and some players and creates real bonds with these people. I think what both the author and narrator have done best is really pull out this girl's raw emotions in such a way that you feel this bond with her personally, and that is a really hard thing to do.

I cannot recommend this book enough, I can't wait for the next one!

Going back to the narrator, Andrea Parsneau. I've never heard her narrate before, but she did an amazing job. She has great voices for all of the characters that are different, and she narrates the male characters very well, which I often find are harder for women narrators to do. The emotion and inflection that she is able to convey in all of the characters is so well done that I wish I could rate her higher. There is really no one better that could have been chosen to narrate this book.

Loved this book!

I have read a lot of books in my life, and this very well may be my favorite book of all time. The clever little details that draw you into the story are superbly crafted. The main character is someone whom I have come to care about her future!

If you are looking for a childish, fantastical wet dream of a book, this isn’t for you. If you are looking for a book where character development and story is the authors primary concern, then look no further. This book is for you!

Fun story 4.5

The book starts with some of the LitRPG common tropes. Gamer owes a ton of money enters the game hoping to make money in order to keep playing and out of indent service. Enters game with potential OP item and eventual special quest and perks.

But despite that, the main character is interesting and likable. She performs side quests along the main and gets into common troubles. NPCs and secondary characters are well done and don't feel forced. Enough leveling and skills to satisfy, but not so many stats that bog down the audio experience like many other titles in the genre.

The narration was very clear and well done with a wide array of pitches and accents.

The only part that took away from my experience was the pseudo swearing. Instead of swearing the MC says random words that often end up being vegetables or other foods. Other characters in the book don't swear except for the extremely rare occurrence, and is handled in this same fake swearing. It wouldn't be so bad if it only happened once or twice, but it happened often enough that it got old pretty quick.
