About this listen

Proven solutions for a better night's sleep, from the "sleep guru" to elite athletes - rest for success in work, sports, and life

One-third of our lives - that's 3,000 hours a year - is spent trying to sleep. The time we spend in bed shapes our moods, motivation, alertness, decision-making skills, reaction time, creativity...in short, our ability to perform, whether at work, at home, or at play. But most of us have disturbed, restless nights, relying on over-stimulation from caffeine and sugar to drag us through the day.

The old eight-hour rule just doesn't work, and it's time for a new approach. Endorsed by leading professionals in sports and business, Sleep shares a new program to be your personal best.

Nick Littlehales is the leading sport sleep coach to some of the biggest names in the sporting world, including record-breaking cyclists for British Cycling and Team Sky, international soccer teams, NBA and NFL players, and Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Here, he shares his proven strategies for anyone to use. You'll learn how to map your unique sleep cycle, optimize your environment for recovery, and cope with the demands of this fast-paced, tech-driven world.

Listen to Sleep and rest your way to a more confident, successful, and happier you.

Great short listen

The book itself delivers an eye-opening concept of implementing sleep cycles as the guide to achieve better sleep. I enjoyed the fact that the author delved into the concept of why sleep cycles matter and debunked the common misconception of "quality" sleep.

I gave it 4 stars because I wished the book went further into creating a sleeping pack. Recommendations on building a custom sleeping pack didn't mention too much on the Why's, but rather glossed over a basic construction of it.

Overall a great and powerful book if readers/listeners can implement the concept into their own lives. It has definitely helped me.

Super informative

Learned some real game changers. Love sunrise alarm.idea. No more waking up in the dark , jolted awake by the alarm. That alone made the book worth it. But there is so much more.

Changed how I view sleep

Would you listen to Sleep again? Why?

No because the information was articulated well and I will remember the tips

What other book might you compare Sleep to and why?

None I know of -- He is an expert in his field that worked with plenty of professional European and American athletes and he tells us how to sleep like athletes at home.

Good book, too long

This book should have been an essay. The core concepts fit in a single chapter, the rest is filler content.

Rethinking Sleep

This book was very insightful in addressing how members of the 21st century view sleep. Littlehales (author) addresses the myth of the 8 hours and goes into depth as to how to get more out of sleep to be not only more productive but get more out of your recovery.
**Note** this is not a 'follow these rules/guidelines and have a magical outcome' . The author encourages the reader to pay attention to the numerous variables that may contribute or be a detriment to a quality nights' sleep.

objective and thorough

the author will mention their own products and services but not push them on the reader. if you want to pay him to do things for you, he will be happy to accept your money, but empowers you to DIY solutions that work best for you. the biggest challenge a reader will encounter is incorporating 90 minute sleep cycles into their sleep routines. But it offers lots of practical advice for travelers, athletes, professionals, expecting parents, and others who struggle with sleep challenges. the book won't rant about insomnia, it is very solution oriented and the author is an advocate of the reader who wants the reader to not overspend on mattresses that over promise and under deliver

more about his sleep program for athletes

I found a lot of this to not be realistic for avg person. seems very geared towards selling a sleep program you can buy separately.
