About this listen

Finn Graymare is back in the final installment of Randy Henderson's Familia Arcana series.

Finn's re-adaptation to the human world is not going so well. He's got a great girlfriend, and is figuring out how things like the internet work, but he is still carrying the disembodied personality of Alynon, Prince of the Silver Demesne, the fae who had occupied his body during his imprisonment. And he's not getting along at all with his older brother. And oh, by the way, his dead grandfather is still trying to possess him in order to bring about Armageddon.

I just loved this series. It had great characters and was an awesome story. Todd Haberkorn's performance was amazing. He really brings the characters to life by giving them all different voices. He doesn't just tell the story he draws you in with the way he narrates it. This story was made even better with his narrative. I felt everything was completed at the end and truly enjoyed it.

A great end to those series.

Any additional comments?

Lots of action in this fast paced 3rd installment. There's still plenty of snarky humor, but Finn is making hard decisions with lots of introspection. Narration is great as usual. This was the best of the series so far, but hopefully not the last.

I really enjoyed the 1st book of this series. The 2nd book was okay. The 3rd book I had to struggle to finish. The narrator seems to think that every female voice should be that of a valley girl. And the story? I just got tired of Mort being a selfish penis wrinkle and Finn always trying to fix everything, plead with Mort & others to let him help, and just Finn acting like a whiny kid most of the time. I understand he was 15 when exiled and maybe still 15 emotionally in many ways, but the family drama between Mort and Finn in particular just got old. And while Finn might have an excuse for behaving juvenile, 40 year old Dawn, who did not get emotionally stunted while in exile for 25 years, does not have an excuse. The teenage love talk between her and Finn got old also. And her "I feel like there should be a problem and it worries me that I don't see a problem... " Man, that woman is her own problem. If I hadn't listened to the first 2 books of this series then I definitely wouldn't have pushed to finish this last one. And why does the Arc prohibit one type of arcane from developing other powers? Finn gave the reason but it is stupid. Because the Arc doesn't want one type becoming too powerful? A necromancer can't also be a wizard? That's like saying an expert marksman with a rifle can't also be a martial arts expert.
