The Divided Mind is the crowning achievement of Dr. John E. Sarno's long and successful career as a groundbreaking medical pioneer. The Divided Mind traces the history of psychosomatic medicine, including Freud's crucial role as well as his failures. Dr. Sarno believes that the failure of medicine's practitioners to recognize and appropriately treat mind-body disorders has produced public health and economic problems of major proportions in the United States. As a doctor, I found Dr Sarno's work very thought provoking. I agreed with most of his supportive information. He is absolutely correct in saying that much of patients' symptoms have a psychological basis. The book is also very encouraging. It reports the power of people to heal themselves when the realize the psychological causes. This book is strongly recommended to all health care professionals and those suffering from chronic pain.

Even more clarity on the variety of emotions causing pain in the body. Many other diseases are mentioned here, autoimmune, hypertension, even cancer. I am wondering if the Lefkoe Method might be a great beginning to combine with Dr. Sarno’s work? Excellent information.

A must-read for anyone that has a brain … the owners manual that answers the question: how does this thing work? Helps you learn to think of “mindbody” as a single thing. Bringing new understanding to a phrase popularized in the sixties … each one of us needs to “get our head together,” to be free!

For anyone who lives with chronic pain or illness this book is worth reading. It asks you to look at the effect of the unconscious mind on the body.

My only disappointment is that the last three chapters of the paper copy were not on my audible and that the chapter numbers on the audible did not always coinside with my paper copy.
