Publisher's summary

These are the things empaths need to know to heal from the abuse of a narcissist.

Empaths attract negative people. It can sometimes feel like you have a target painted on your back. No matter where you go, fully intending to avoid all drama, they will find you. Before you even know it, you’re already their prey.

It isn’t fair that you get treated as a personal emotional dumping ground.

Many empaths grew up with a narcissist parent or parents. You grew up being emotionally abused. And because of the abuse you faced growing up, you make sure you provide the care and love others need because you know how it feels to not have it.

Narcissists love empaths because know an empath will shower them with love and try to satisfy their every need. And because of this, all too often, empaths find themselves being abused and taken advantage of by a narcissist.

Empaths and narcissists are on opposite sides of the spectrum. They attract each other like magnets. But the truth is they are a toxic duo. Remember when you first met a certain narcissist? Remember how charming and loving and attentive they seemed? Remember the butterflies you felt in your stomach every time you saw them? They lured you in like a fisherman.

Then as they got more comfortable with you, their mask began to fall. Their true colors began to show.

Suddenly everything is all about them and you have to cater to their needs. They hurt you again, and again, and again, and again, never taking your feelings into consideration.

Most people would have left, but as an empath, you stayed and forgave them constantly. On top of that, you, being the caretaker you are, believed you could change or heal them with your love.

Most empaths believe that by putting up with a narcissist, eventually things will work out.

Here’s the truth: it won’t get better, but it can get worse. Putting up with a narcissist and/or learning new “tricks” to temporarily deal with a narcissist is not going to change the fact that you are a victim of their abuse.

If a narcissist is not willing to help themselves first, there’s nothing an empath can do.

The best way to deal with a narcissist is to put yourself first.

You’ll discover how to do that in The Empath and the Narcissist. The Empath and the Narcissist will also help you discover how to come to terms with your narcissistic acquaintance, combat common tactics narcissists use to control and manipulate you, and how to get on the road to recovery and healing.

Don’t waste another second of your precious time trying to convince yourself that you’re okay with how things are.

Join the other empaths who are healing their wounds and living better, happier lives.

Not the best narration

Not the best narration. The information was ok, but not the best. I would have liked more information.

A decent baseline on the topic

This book is a good starter if you’re trying to understand or deal with a narcissist in your life. The writing felt very much like a high school term paper at times but overall had some good nuggets. If you are just starting to learn about this disorder and how to manage people around you who are narcissists this is a good first step.

Great resource for those in troubled relationships

This book is a great resource for the empaths in the relationship to come to realization about perhaps why they have been experiencing such heartache in their relationship, if they happen to be in a relationship with a narcissist. It is laid out well to help the empath go through the phases of discovery, understanding, and then action for healing and recovery.
That said, I agree with many other reviewers that the narrator was quite horrible and detracted from the content. I sped up the book by 25% and that seemed to help a bit. Still if audiobook format is the only way you'll read this book, then definitely worth a listen.

Robotic

Good information provided however the reader sounds robotic and it was difficult to listen to for long periods.

Surface level info, would not recommend

It felt like a high school report as opposed to an expert speaking on a topic. Lots of anecdotal examples and only sources are for websites you've probably read yourself. I didn't feel like I gained much from this.
