Publisher's summary

Statistics show that 50 percent of what determines divorce is genetic temperament. And, if you are one of the 20 percent of people who are born highly sensitive, the risk of an unhappy relationship is especially high. Your finely tuned nervous system, which picks up on subtleties and reflects deeply, would be a romantic asset if both you and your partner understood you better. But without that understanding, your sensitivity is likely to be making your close relationships painful and complicated.

Based on Elaine N. Aron's groundbreaking research on temperament and intimacy, The Highly Sensitive Person in Love offers practical help for highly sensitive people seeking happier, healthier romantic relationships. From low-stress fighting to sensitive sexuality, the book offers a wealth of practical advice on making the most of all personality combinations. Complete with illuminating self-tests and the results of the first survey ever done on sex and temperament, The Highly Sensitive Person in Love will help you discover a better way of living and loving.

Transformative

This book has revealed aspects of myself that have been quieted. It opened my eyes to the tender truths I often hide from others and myself. I believe my life will be significantly improved from listening to the information that was collected, digested and expressed by Elaine. I highly recommend, not only to HSP/HSS but anyone interested in developing a greater understanding of others. You might find a part of yourself in these pages, even if you don’t expect to.

Exceptional!

Fantastic! Absolutely eye-opening and thorough. A great work on Highly Sensitive People relationships with advice, helpful strategies, and exceptional analysis of the mind and thought process of a HSP. Everyone who is a HSP, or thinks they may be an HSP, needs to read this book. It is the most important work I've read (heard) on the subject of relationships. A. Must. Have!

Illuminating & Transformative

My partner (a non-HSP) & I (a HSP) both read this book. It has given each of us more grace understanding with the other, & has functioned as catalyst towards true transformation in our relationship. We read a lot of books on psychology & self-development, but I would urge anyone who suspects they may be a HSP to put this one at the top of their list. I’m able to fully see myself & appreciate my talents & nature now that I have read this extremely vindicating work. This book has been illuminating in understanding my life up to this point & going forward. Highly recommend.

I feel SEEN

To finally have some sort of validation for what I've been struggling with my entire LIFE... to feel that maybe I'm not completely insane.
The relief and hope that research like this brings is something I can't put to words.
Many and much thanks to Elaine Aron for listening to all the sensitivos out there who tend to believe that living their life in confusion and misunderstanding is just...the way it is.
I hope that this anchor she has created for us will continue to be developed and integrated in our culture, because we desperately need it!

Great book but poorly presented

I love Elaine Aron and her research and only wish she had been the reader of her book. I struggled to stay with the audible version because I so disliked the robotic way it was read, and I will not recommend anyone listen to it but suggest they read it instead. Elaine has such a wonderful way of speaking that I can only imagine how great it would have been in her voice. I listen to many audio books — I always have at least one going — and can say if I come across this reader again, I will switch to reading the book before listening through another.

But the book itself is superb and I highly recommend it to every HSP or someone in a relationship with an HSP.

Finally explained why I feel the way I feel

This book, along with the original HSP book by Dr. Aron literally changed my life. I was amazed at how closely she describes all the emotions and feelings that an HSP goes through in a relationship and more importantly explains why it is so. So I am no longer feel like there is something wrong with me and I am more conscious of my own emotions and feelings. That really helps to see the whole picture and not be overwhelmed by everything as it usually is for an HSP. The chapter where she explains about impossible love and how to avoid it is really an eye-opener for me. I should have read it when I was a teenager and it would save me a lot of soul torments later in life. I can't thank enough Dr. Aron for her research and that I found these books. It's definitely a must-read for all HSPs.

The only bad thing about this audiobook is that the chapters are not aligned with actual book chapters, for example the narration refers to chapter 5, but in Audible it's chapter 7. And they also don't have titles, so it's hard to navigate between them.

Helped me put my life into perspective as a highly sensitive person

Sometimes just being able to put a name to something and know other people experience what you experience is refreshing and enlightening . So I agree I’m a highly sensitive person and probably highly sensation seeking one at that. Not that I’m going to use that as as excuse to not do the work on myself and relationships but helps to understand with greater perspective me and the implications of being highly sensitive.

Home run!

Another brilliant book by Elaine Aaron I cannot express in words alone how grateful I am that someone like you took the time to do the research and write a book like this. I feel like this is a map to traits I possess and helps me better understand myself so I can be the kind and loving person I want to be. From the bottom of my heart I am truly grateful, what a great book.
