Publisher's summary

The day after Hugo gains access to magic, his train explodes.

Unknown magic flings him back in time, and he narrowly avoids death this time. While he is trying to unravel the mystery of this unexpected second chance, life goes on. His new gifts lead him to the magic academy. At the school, he will face off against noble students who don’t want him to be there, teachers who expect him to already know everything, and literal monsters that want to kill him.

To survive and thrive, he will need weapons, friends, and a healthy danger sense. But first, he has to pick which magic domain suits him best.

Fun

Nice written book with good pace to the story. Equivalent to a not so privileged individual attending a prestigious school.

Phenomenal Series Start

Adam Sampson is a new author to me so seeing a new author with this type of story excites me. This book was great from the beginning to the end. The time loop aspect along with the cultivation and LITRPG elements makes this a book and series I think fans of the genre wont be able to get enough of. I certainly cant wait for the next book in the series.

Ronnie Rowlands gives a wonderful narration performance that kept me engaged in the book from page one until the end.

Takes a little while to get into the story.

This one took me a little while to get into partially because to the single narration and mostly because it takes a while to setup. This is not run of the mill fantasy/litrpg story line. There's same complicated maneuvering and politics that had to be established. Not to mention all the different races and their politics, and quirks. It could have been better served by dual narrators, but that's just my preference. Really good story regardless and I'm looking forward to the next in series. That ending left me wanting more.

I received a free code for this audiobook in exchange for an early and honest review. I totally failed on the early part.

Oh boy here we go again

And again, and again. Can’t wait to hear about Hugo’s (3rd 4th?) reincarnation. He is just a little bit of a learn by himself kinda guy, and sometimes to his own detriment. This is a slow and immersive story that I really enjoyed.

Give it a try you might like it

So the book starts out as the main character goes up this mountain to be able to unlock the system at the age of 16. You can unlock it through living your life and hunting monsters but this way is very dangerous and a high risk of dying or you can do this cheat where you can absorb magic that comes out of this mountain once a year to unlock the system. Obviously the first try doesn’t work so it goes to a more sketchy area and does it through that. On his way home she dies and get sent back to when he opens his System back on the mountaintop.
The book basically follows him through his daily life of going to school and learning about his special system well going through the tribulations of being a poor kid and not having the knowledge that was given to all the rich kids because of money.
It does take a while but he does go back in time again and becomes a different person because his soul gets stuck into a different body.
The main character is not an OP character because he can go back in time. At least for right now. Through the second time rewind he does keep some of his powers from his previous life so does get a little more than other students. But it doesn’t ruin the story one bit.
The only gripe I have about this book is the Narrator pronounces words wrong quite a bit and sometimes I have to relisten to make sure I understood what he said. Purpose signs that the book is long and you get a good bang for your buck. I definitely do recommend this book to anybody that has a lot of time on their hands and you can sit down and listen to a good book.

The book was very good, couldn't put it down.
It somewhat scratches the MoL itch. Looking forward to the next one!
