About this listen

He was given another chance at life and from the infinite possibilities available, he chose to come back as a mechanical man, a Metalman, named Repair. Now he has to contend with a research lab full of gnomes who say he owes them for bringing him back from death, a strange city that is going through a magical industrial revolution, and adversaries that want to see him broken into pieces.

Full of action, adventure, and of course crafting, join Repair on his adventure through this strange fantasy world where magic and technology meet. He’ll dive into the city’s dungeon to kill monsters for XP, and gather resources to figure out the solutions to his problems. Because if he doesn’t become more powerful, he’ll not only lose his freedom, but the life of his friend.

The Mechanical Crafter is a LitRPG adventure.

I was impressed with the story. I wish it had more content but hopefully more will come soon. I enjoyed the characters. The social inequalities give something to strive for. I hope to see much more from this series!!

It's a great adventure!

It’s nice to listen to a book where the MC isn’t an overpowered spell sword killing machine. Not that I don’t love those as well. Great feeling of tension in that the MC could lose at any time. Narration was pretty good, she could work on her pauses to give a better feel and flow but it doesn’t take away from the story.

Different type of MC

Definitely a fun listen. The Metalman race definitely have me a Warforged vibe, and made the character's experiences unique.

great book but for a crafter character he doesn't do anything interesting with it.

good start

I really enjoyed this novel. I have been following Mejia for a while and I consider this to be his breakthrough novel. I am happy to see him come into his own. His earlier work was lacking when it came to the world building and character motivations. Here the world is fully formed and all the characters, not just the MC, had distinct personalities and quirks.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It kept us company through a recent road trip.
Kudos to you Mejia and welcome to my must buy list.

Great story and narration!

Repair (an engineer from earth reincarnated into a Metal Man's body in a fantasy world) is figuring out his new life. He is owned by some gnomes at a gnomish collage and working for his freedom and citizenship. On top of all that he has to figure out his new body, class, and what he wants to do with his life without guidance as he is now a member of a lost race! Simple right?

Jill does a fantastic job with the narration - really bringing the story to life!

I loved this book, and can't wait for the next one to come out!

Loved it!!!

this was one of those books where you can zone out while listening to it, I enjoyed it, but I can understand how some people might find this book uninteresting.

This is an enjoyable listen with a fresh take on the genre. While the common tropes are there it is different enough not to blend into the background of a genre full of new authors. The story is well read and acted.

A Fresh LitRPG

Compared to majority of the Litrpgs on Audible, this is better than 85% of them. It has a very decent story and its pacing moves along quite well. I don't understand the issue anyone would have with the MC, she pulls off the story well and never comes across as not being..."male" enough for the male characters. people who "meh" will "meh" I suppose, and there is always some value in that.

For me - it was a better, far better than average story with the potential of being a great story if we could carve off a lot of the oversimplification and add some more complexity to the protagonists...bad guys written just to be bad works for kids...so as an adult if you read this, it doesn't mean its badly written...far from it, its actually pretty decent, its just at times the bad guys lines are...well...predictably one dimensional.

But, if you are a hopeless Litrpg addict like yours truly, this will work just fine as you plow your way through more books trying to find that elusive "FANTASTIC PLUS PLUS PLUS" books that you cant put down.

Actually quite enjoyable
