Publisher's summary

What can a game clan accomplish without a castle? The answer is obvious: nothing. Therefore, the main objective of any leader in a game world is to acquire a base of operations. Finding himself in exactly this position, High Shaman Mahan, leader of the Legends of Barliona, accepts an offer from the Emperor and the Dark Lord to vanquish the army of Phantoms that has inhabited Altameda, the phantom castle. However, this seemingly ordinary quest sets in motion such a momentous chain of events that the Shaman can do nothing but resort to his intuition and act on instinct. After all, a player who is being hunted by the three top clans of the continent at once can do little else....

Entertaining.

Up to this book I couldn't put it down. Seemed like there was a lot of filler content, if it wasn't an audible I may have stopped reading it. I am hoping book 5 will bring the fire back. Because it gets old real fast after listening to 5 mins of "If I put this here and twist that there, no that's not right let's start over, if I ..." My imagination really had to work through a few filler moments like that. I also felt that the book points out the unrealism's of the game to justify parts that could have been written a little better. I struggled through a few parts, but the story ended strong so I was happy, I am definitely getting book 5 and have high hopes it will be as awesome as the first 3 books were.

Excellent world building, fascinating protagonist

I enjoyed this a great deal, really loved reading about their quests and skills, and figuring out their potential, without a great deal of bloody battle. My only quibble is I want Mahan called by that name the whole time, not Daniel, ditto for all the characters--use their in-game names...and stop constantly referring to well-educated and grown women as "girls"...gaming culture sexism is not so abundant anymore.

Well-drawn world with endless surprises and terrific main character! Jonathan Yen is absolutely excellent at handling the myriad voices. This is a wonderful "listen to" book series and I have been happy with the first four volumes.

Fantastic, cannot wait for the fifth book.

Great addition to the series. Nothings never as it seems in these books which makes them hard to put down. Perfomance was great as usual, really adds personality to the characters.

This is a immensely captivating book series!

I bought the first book in the series on a whim. but after the first couple of chapters I was hooked. I have been burning my way through these books over the past 3 weeks and just can't them down. The theme reminds me a lot of Log Horizon. I am eagerly awaiting for book five to come to Audible.

Compelling LitRPG story -- amazing voice acting in performance

I sometimes can't believe that all of the voices in this performance come from the same voice actor. It adds a great texture to the story.

The story itself is an interesting exploration of creativity and the struggle to find ones true identity but listening to your heart.
