I enjoyed finally getting to hear the sequel to The Crafting of Chess. In most LitRPG/Gamelit books, the outside world is boring. In this series, I enjoy the outside world elements as much or more than the game world. I am looking forward to the next book.

Warning: Though the first book had very little combat, this version focuses much more on combat. I personally enjoyed the addition of combat, but some readers might be put off by it.

Also Kit, I know the publishers hype “YA”. They think they’ll hit gold with the next H.P. But this is litRPG. The adults you drew in with “Crafting…” aren’t going to return for a R.L. Story about high sch

I felt like I waited forever for book 2 and it was worth the wait.

This felt different from the first book. From crafting to battle, from set up to action. Different feel but both are great books. Matthew Broadhead did an excellent job.

Good second book

This book was awesome, it has been awhile since I heard the first book, so I do not remember all the characters. What Frank did to Nate's Character Chess was a little underhanded. I am not sure if more will be written, but if they are I look forward to listening to them.

The story is a little slow but once it gets going it really draws you in just as good as book one

great story slow start

A great continuation from the first book. An epic adventure of maneuvering pieces with an ever expanding world.

A different take and style from the first ones crafting orientation, but nonetheless still a great story.

Keep up the good work Kit, I never write reviews but want you to succeed.

A Kings Performance

Although there were enjoyable moments listening to the other two stories... I felt that they took away too much time from the MC's story. The main reason I enjoyed the first book was because of its crafting element but this book almost entirely eliminates that.

Overall the second book was a struggle to get into the 2 other character stories as much as i did chess story.

Major Shift in Character Focus

I honestly loved the first one because it's a crafting focused novel.

This isn't. I'm a couple hours in, and I think one piece of gear was crafted.

I agree with all of the other one or two star reviews on the Kindle version. Villians have no consequences for any action, and Chess' storyline in the game is frustrating more than anything.

Crafting Isn't in the Title for a Reason

The first book has some of the silliness some VRMMOs have about developers being antagonists when actual developers see players who "break" the game as free QA and just fix the problems without any animosity or relationship with the players who "break" them; however, this is tertiary, and you can honestly just skip these chapters for a better experience. The second novel uses a peevish developer's plans as the plot device and thus makes this too ridiculous for me to take seriously as someone who has worked in the game industry.

Matthew Broadhead voicing this peevish character like the least respectable cartoon villain in a cartoon made for ages three to eight makes this intolerable plotline unlistenable. What a huge disappointment after such a strong first book.
