About this listen

A series of gruesome murders on the Lincolnshire fens. An old enemy from the past. A deadly game of cat and mouse.

The peaceful little village of Saltern-le-Fen is buzzing with excitement. A film crew are in town, shooting a new TV police drama, Fen Division Five. But Detective Jackman receives a disturbing tip-off that something is wrong.

Detective Marie Evans meanwhile is looking forward to moving into her dream home. But there’s no time to celebrate. The naked body of a young man is found at the river’s edge. He’s been strangled, his skin massaged in expensive oil.

Two days later, another handsome young man is discovered in a shallow lake. His throat cut. He too is lathered in body oil.

At the same time, an arch enemy from the past emerges. A master manipulator who has his sights on Jackman and Evans. From behind the bars of his high security prison, he’s putting the finishing touches to a devastating revenge plan.

As they hunt a brutal killer, Jackman and Evans are themselves hunted in a deadly game of cat and mouse – and the stakes could not be higher.

A great and enjoyable series.

After finishing this book, I am wishing for more. It isn't a fast-paced and action-packed series... simply great writing and enjoyable storytelling. Highly recommended on all fronts.

I am a fan

Read all the previous books. Huge fan! This one, the storyline bringing up old Alistair was a little tedious as we did that one already and up he popped again. I wasn’t engrossed. As always I really liked the narration by Richard Armitage, he is the best!

Excellent book, very engaging

We’ve listened to all the previous Jackman & Evan’s books so we were well aware of the superb storytelling and narration with this book. This one doesn’t disappoint. I love the way Joy Ellis weaves the tale of a previous nemesis into this surprising twist of a tale. I highly recommend listening to this book.

Fast paced, interesting, excellent narration

Excellent characters, riveting story, plot, and narration. Enjoyed the complexity of the plot, the psychological elements, and trying to figure out who was pulling the strings.

Character relationships🥴

I was so hoping for a union this go round. Left sad about the relationships of all the characters. But a great read!

Great next chapter

I liked how a conclusion to one character arch closed but I don’t feel that it was truly believable. I love the characters and the author but it isn’t the best in the series.
