About this listen

When Earth gets integrated into the vast expanse of a new multiverse, one young man is game to survive—it's in his blood—in this apocalyptic adventure.

Everyone becomes prey when Earth is swallowed up and transmuted to a bestial landscape, the first stage of induction into Elysium's multiverse and a new galaxy in the making. In the blink of any eye, the bloodthirsty creatures of Riven Thane's worst nightmares are unleashed as he; his sister, Allie; and his friend Jose scramble amid the carnage to live another hour.

But on this nothing of a planet, Riven is more special than he knows. He's among a select few with a singular bloodline, and the Elysium system has its eye on Riven in particular. He's already proven his unbeatable will to survive. Now, untapped powers can be his should he succeed at what the multiverse has in store for him.

World be damned, let the games begin: challenging trials of stamina, labyrinthine mazes, and mind-bending puzzles requiring sharp wit and quick thinking. Each consecutive win will bring Riven nearer to an unimaginable undertaking . . . a personalized tutorial in the dungeons of hell itself. And it's just the beginning—Riven is about to unlock the secrets of his past and learn more about his purpose and the dark arts than he ever imagined.

Whatever unholy chaos awaits him back home, he's ready. Because as close to death as he may be, Riven has never felt more alive.

Quite enjoyable

I quite enjoyed it. Similar to others of this style but, well written, intelligent characters, limited stats reviews.

One voice can ruin an audiobook

There seems to be some unreasonable aversion to using voice changing tools which leads to some beyond horrible voices in audiobooks but the spider voice in this one is enough that I will not be buying any more books in this series and will be cautious of any narrations by Jay Aaseng. Which is sad because the general voice and others are pretty good. Narrators please just use voice changers if you insist on narrating opposite gender voices. You can literally destroy an otherwise good book.

just ok

The whole thing was just ok. A good run time for the credit and narrator isn't bad.

A great new story

I enjoyed the overall story greatly as it does have some tropes but not ones I care about. The MC is a bit confusing at times. But, as you come to know him and hear his thought process a few times he makes sense.

It seems to be a slow burn on the world building and a hit on the system side too. But you gain plenty of info as the MC does so it’s introduced well. Overall information wasn’t something the author beat us to death with.

Narration was good, only complaints on that end are minor. Some characters sounded exactly the same as others. I do think the narration was overall very good and told the story well.

My only real complaint is the pacing of the story. I feel like we lose momentum several times for not real reason. If those areas had been broken up a little I think it could be a huge help.

Really into system mechanics

The story is really over powered by author’s love of systems.
Spoilers
I only listened 2hrs.
The bad guy with a gold heart thing never works out imo. But in this case, it’s worst. The bad guy stuff isn’t laid out well but he’s already saving people. He even worries about his dead mom watching. Then why did he do bad things in the past? His blood defines him. MC doesn’t have free will. He’s just a cog in the authors machine. The trails were super lame. Anyone with an iq of 90 could have passed. Finally, unholy would never call themselves unholy. Seems silly. Like could you imagine starting an organization called the unamericans lol

Pretty Dark but still humorous at times

As the title says, it has its dark moments but still is funny at times. Close to grim dark but not all the way there. Think of a step or two darker than He Who Fights With Monsters and a step back with its humor. Still a good listen, solid narrator too.

Really good read!!

Not sure if this is this author’s first published work or not as I couldn’t really find anything else them. but I took a chance on it anyways, and was not disappointed! It’s a solid litRPG without a lot of the played out tropes that plagues this genre. I’m excited to read more from this author!
