About this listen

Seek out new life and civilizations. Kill them for their mana. Aliens are blown away by science.

The first three books in the Viceroy's Pride series, over 32 hours of audio to whisk you away on an apocalyptic adventure!

Daniel Thrush is the only known human with the ability to learn the magic which runs the various empires of the universe. Earth is in the crosshairs of the Tellask Empire, a race that discovered magic millennia before humanity even mastered fire.

All known aliens focus on the arcane. Upon learning of magic, their technological progress all but halted as great voidships spread their colonies across the galaxy. For all of Earth's military might, their only hope is to incorporate the alien's magic into technology, to use the enemy's own tools to fight them.

The government is dead-set on transforming magic into a standard-issue weapon. That means finding monsters and harvesting their mana, usually after sticking them with a sword. Despite his better judgement, and the world on his shoulders, Daniel leaves Earth behind to bring them back a future.

Alrighty I avoided the series for a long time. When it first came out and was being advertised on the website, the description it gave was very different than what’s on the actual book cover. I never took the time to read the book cover because I had already read all about it on the publishers website. The reason why I got this one was it was on sale and the complete trilogy. I always figured if I didn’t like it at least it would not have been that much of a loss. I was so wrong. This is a really good series. Everyone should listen to it. I enjoyed the character development of the MC. I really enjoyed the integration of the real world and magic. I enjoyed the justification of video game terms for magic. The sci-fi element was amazing. This was a really good series. I wish I could’ve gotten all three books as soon as they came out. This series is worth paying full price for.
