About this listen

Malrosa is a princess of the Athanatos, powerful immortal insect people who have been systematically assaulting Vita's island for years.

When Vita ends up fusing her soul with her, the resulting gestalt must struggle to reconcile her conflicting viewpoints and beliefs. Now in love with two homes and full of perspective her old self lacked, Vita must bring peace between warring islands... and if there's one thing Vita has always been bad with, it's peace.

This is the fourth and final book of Vigor Mortis.

A shift in narrator and storyline

I am happy to have finished the series. As a whole I did enjoy it, but this book was a bit of a slog. The growth of Vita wasn’t unexpected, but the story line radically shifted I and personally don’t think it was for the best. I absolutely loved the first narrator, and while this one didn’t give a bad performance, the difference was striking. We went from an assumed North American accented character voice actor who had developed unique sounds for each person, to an English woman with sharp alliteration. These two things made for a bit too much of a change and outside of the character names you’d think you were listening to a different series. The story line did get wrapped up though, and overall I’m happy I listened.

Almost perfect

While the series is my personal favorite, and volume 4 is no exception in being incredible dreadful, wholesome and engaging, it is off set by the new narrator. While the new narrator is not bad, I do prefer the previous one and it was distracting to get used to the new one. I personally would buy another rerecording of this audiobook if they have the previous narrator. But still a good listen.

Perfect

The series had a perfect ending. My heart aches to know this is the end of the series with Vita.

Fantastic story, good ending, miss the old narrator

Just to get it out of the way, yes it sucks that the Narrator got changed on the last book in the series, that's always annoying, though this one wasn't TOO jarring. Unfortunately, she didn't have as good a range of voices as the previous one did, read more words wrong, and she switched voices pretty inconsistently. I know Vita had a split mind but she'd still use the wrong voice pretty often even after they were able to distinguish themselves, and it happened sometimes with characters that didn't have the schizophrenia excuse. She wasn't a bad narattor, but wasn't as good as the last.

Anyway, the story was great. Seeing some true moments of happiness was well deserved and cathartic after everything Vita went through. The end itself seemed a bit rushed considering all the world-breaking changes that occurred in such a short time, I wish there had been a bit more time for us to absorb it, and I would have loved to have had that final part of her journey expanded on for more than just one chapter. However that didn't make it less enjoyable. I don't think the author has expressed an interest in a direct sequel continuing that part of the story in the near future, but I really hope she does someday. I'd very much like to see where things are going, even if it does seem intended to be open ended.

This whole series was overall a massive surprise and delight to read, and I was hooked from beginning to end. Even to the point I had almost all my coworkers ask if I was OK since I avoided talking at work so I could spend all my free time listening. I couldn't put it down. The journey was difficult, traumatic, magical, and so raw, it made the brief moments of happiness and success so much more impactful. And despite the horror of it all, there was true humor that had me laughing out loud (again to concerned looks from coworkers), It's and Larks obliviousness throughout the story, in particular, was a great source of humor without feeling forced. I'll be looking for more books from Thundamoo, and will have my fingers crossed hoping to someday see how this universe turns out.

Can’t wait for book 5,6,7,8,9…..

I didn’t like this narrator. All character voices sounded the same with the exception of Nala. With Jessica, I was able to tell which character was speaking. I wish they can do a re recording with Jessica Al….

My favorite series.

I was worried when I saw that they changed the narrator but I'm pretty sure it was a joint effort the book was well worth the wait ty. Great world building loved the progression. A spin off series would be amazing you have a base already.

Fantastic

This is my favorite series by this author so I'm sad that this is the last book in the series, but I respect the decision to end the story. Really, not enough authors these days plan well enough for an ending and most of them keep writing until all the wheels fall off the cart, so the speak. At any rate, this was a very strong book and possibly the best of all of them. Eight thumbs up.

Beautiful

The motif of love is often poorly done in fantasy. This otherworldly book makes you weep with it. I will hold this series in my heart forever.

astounding existentially terrifying

The problems and moral conundrums mixed with existential dread thundamoo can craft with such expertise gets my blood boiling and heart pumping with excitement. I look on with equal parts dread and anticipation. I hope you continue to write more stories with such beautifully emotionally broken characters.

I want more!!!

This author is my favorite! I have liked everything she has published so far. Great book! But I had a bit of trouble trying to know who is talking until I was told.
