About this listen

He's a part-time Imperial hero, full-time thief. Lucky for him, she's not that kind of Inquisitor.

Illusionist and novice spy Alan Campbell just got out of one relationship only to have another woman walk into his life: the Lady Camilla Favonius of the Imperial Inquisition. He's close to broke and left without orders. She wears plate armor in the field and around her heart. Is the lady just what the Plague Doctor ordered, or will his efforts to get a job and woo her only leave him jaded...or dead?

From the city of Harrowick to the perilous depths of the Grass Sea, Alan will have to fight a corrupt syndicate, earn his place in the Thieves' Union, and face down monsters and the risen dead if he wants a happy ending. All the while, in the real world, Robert Osmark is as close to losing his company as he's ever been, and both Sandra and Jeff will have to pick sides once the battle lines are drawn.

Brazen thievery, Death caught off-balance, the Dawn Elves' dirty secret, and unexpected love combine in Inquisitor's Foil, the third book of the Illusionist series.

Obviously the main storyline from the original series is better than this. However this is a nice twist. I just don't know that I care as much about the MC as much as I did for the original. I was hoping for a little bit more insight. Which this didn't provide. But that didn't stop me from enjoying it.

Great read

My only complaint is that it's too short. But, don't get me wrong. it's due to the story being so captivating and great that you just can't stop listening. I love the back story and character development in this series so much. You really get a feel for the drive behind the characters' actions. Daniel Thomas May does a fantastic job with the whole cast. This series is especially good in getting to know the goings on for how VGO was developed and how it became the lifeboat for the Cataclysm.

Well written, beautifully performed.

I think the illusionist is the most interesting and does the most world building of the VGO storyline. can't wait for the next entry. its o
so cool to see characters from the other stories in a different light .

great entry

These books are really good and I recommend them to anybody that loves listening to litrpg books

I love these books

somehow the writer stopped using the game mechanics, and started writing more drama into the book.... whereas it would have been fun to hear more about our protagonist learning about alchemy.... suddenly he is banned from it within game mechanics.... and then our protagonist goes off on strange tangents....
take that into consideration with the abrupt and rapid relationship that the character gets into that seems to be not only toxic, but also an afterthought of the writer...
and the ending of the book was extremely rushed going from everything going good... to sudden deep relationship with a woman.. that he basically gives up everything he has worked for to continue the relationship...
I will try the next book if it is available... hopefully this was just a bad episode...
and once again the reader tends to think whispers are voices... making it extremely hard to hear at times

nowhere near as good as former books

I was wondering if the series would be fleshed out after the initial release. I’m very glad it did as there were a lot of loose ends.

I also enjoy the nuances of the character personas. It humanizes them. Often stories overlook this element of the story telling process.

I look forward to hearing the rest of the stories in this series.

Great backstory to the series

This was another solid entry into VGO's story. The audio performance was once again on point. I am very interested in seeing where Alan's story takes him as we grow closer to the events in the other books.

Another Solid Entry

The writing was good but it seems like the author is trying to fit to many interlocking sorry for a single book. Still great though and I do recommend it.

Another good book.

I have fallen in love with this universe. even subscribed to the news letter so I can get the next one. I listened through it a second time to have my 15 year old give it a go and he too is not eagerly awaiting the next installment.

at the moment we are listening through the "core" series (my second time there as well) and I'm picking up on the details that carry over from this series you wouldn't otherwise notice.

and as always the voice actor was perfectly cast for this particular narrative.

fantastic just like every other installment

This was a good book but I would like to see how it concludes we need the part four!
