About this listen

Hanna Boudreaux has lived in the small town of Willow all her life. She’s sweet, cute, and quiet.

Hanna has a moment of epiphany when she realizes her crush for forever, Raiden Ulysses Miller, is never going to be hers. She sees her life as narrow and decides to do something about it.

Raiden Miller is the town’s local hero. A former marine with the medal to prove his hero status, he comes home shrouded in mystery. It takes a while, but eventually Hanna catches his eye.

After all these years of Raid and Hanna living in the same town, the question is: Why? Is Raid interested in Hanna because she’s sweet and cute? Or does Raid have something else going on?

Just Okay

I normally truly enjoy ka books. I almost always get the audible version, so I can listen while I walk, or driving. This story was really hard to listen to, because of the narrator. Her voice did sound young, but kind of fit the main character "Hannah". But her mispronunciation of so many words was so annoying I almost stopped listening. What really bothered me was the way she pronounced her ing and ang with a hard G sound.

Not a fan of the narrator

I loved this story, but the narrator was poorly chosen. Raid is suppose to be a macho alpha but he sounds like an over emotional teenaged girl.

The narrator killed it.

I loved the story but the narrator's voice and pronunciation of some words made me crazy. One does not pronounce corps as cores. There were other words that would being me right out of the story too but you get the picture.

Another good one from this author

Dara Rosenberg did a nice job performing this. Really enjoyed her voice and I thought she caught the characters nicely.

Enjoyed the story. Characters were very well done, as expected with Kristen Ashley. The plot moved right along and there were a few surprises I didn't see coming.

Only minor nitpick is I thought the story could have been longer. Felt the ending rushed a bit and wouldn't have minded seeing more of the final actions.

Money well spent.

Sweet!

At the beginning, I almost gave up on the book because Hanna's character annoyed me, too gullible, but as ut started developing she grew on me. Raid was perfect. Overall, I enjoyed the story very much.

My favorite so far

I absolutely loved this book. Hannah is definitely my favorite heroine and Raid is wonderful. Let me just say, again, that I LOVED this story. The performance by Dara Rosenberg was spot on! She did an excellent job! Did I mention I loved this book? :) Well worth my credit!!!

exciting suspenseful and hilarious

Kristen Ashley's bad-ass alpha' s will leave you panting for more. Raid is an uber alpha and Hanna is the quirky small town girl who has crushed on him since she was a kid. Their passion explodes off the page while you laugh like a fool at the way they interact in every day life. Dara Rosenburg is phenomenal in the voice of this read and does a stellar job at bringing it to life, especially Hanna!

Great story poor narration

This is one of my favorite Kristen Ashley books. I love it. Admittedly the alpha hero is a bit over the top and overbearing and I didn’t love some of implications of that. But over all 10/10 on the book.

Unfortunately the narration leaves a lot to be desired. Several obviously mispronounced words could be overlooked if her male voice was decent. The male voice wasn’t done well (doesn’t sound male/isn’t deep) but more importantly, the emotion is wrong at several pivotal points and it throws me out of the whole story. So disappointing.

Great Story, Wrong Narrator!

I have very mixed feelings on this book. It was a really great creative story, but in my opinion, Dara Roseberg was the wrong narrator for this type of story. She isn't a bad narrator but would be better suited in reading children/teenager books. As an Audible Reader, I have listened to numerous audible books of all types, and it is clear that the narrator can make or break the story. I listened to the books that Kristen Ashely wrote on the Sebring brothers and the voices in those stories were definitely needed in this story.

Not only does Hanna sound like a 13year girl, but Raid sounds like a boy going through puberty! He did not sound like a bad ass, semi dangerous sexy man at all! I found myself fast forwarding through their sex scenes because they sounded like under aged kids.

However, the story was very creative and if Kristen would have used the same narrator in her book "Knight" it would have been a stellar book and I would have given it 5 stars for sure!

KA's writing outweighs the meh narration

First, I expect the narrator and her friends to mark this review as unhelpful, as I have noticed that all the other reviews that mentioned anything negative regarding the narration were deemed "unhelpful." Not sure how an opinion can really BE unhelpful unless it doesn't give you an idea of why the opinion was formed, but I think there are people who use the helpful/unhelpful buttons as agree/disagree buttons. You can't fix stupid... but I digress. Please forgive me. (Or just go ahead and make this the most unhelpful review ever. That'll learn me.)

NARRATOR: The voice was good, not great but not terrible. Given Hanna's super girlyness, I thought the voice fit her. Raid, not so much, but again, not terrible. However, the mispronunciations were a problem:
Boudreaux was pronounced "bood-WAH" (yeah, like in bedroom), not bood-ROW.
Ornery was pronounced "or-NAIR-ee," not ORN-uh-ree.
Countrified was pronounced "COUN-ter-fried," not "CUN-tree-fide" (had to be careful there).
Corps (as in Marine) was pronounced "coors" (yeah, like the beer), not CORE.
BUT....She did NOT mispronounce the word CAVALRY as CALVARY, and this made me forgive the others. If the 4 mispronounced words were repeated MANY times, it would have been different. As is, you kind of have to roll your eyes a couple of times when the cat is described as ornery, a couple of times when the decor is described as countrified and for about 5 minutes when reference is being made to Raid being in the corps. OK, you also have to just suck up the instances of Boudoir instead of Boudreaux. All in all--Not Really That Big A Deal.

STORY: KA books span from, "Wow, that was great" to "OMG!!! THAT rocked my world!" For me, this one was great. 4 stars instead of 5. The Unfinished Heroes Series is a bit different than her others, in that these heroes' armor is a bit more on the tarnished side. I have read them all, and I do recommend ALL of them. Of the 4 books in the series, I think this one is more on the short and sweet end of the spectrum and also maybe the one that was not as detailed, but I still loved it. I LOVED grandma, the "old biddy" and how she referred to people as "skinny minnie." (Reminded me of my grandma who used the same words.) Gotta say, I do love Knight, Creed and Deacon more than Raid, but that doesn't mean I don't have a place in my heart for him too, and this story was definitely entertaining and worth the time to enjoy it.

In spite of the shorter length and the slight narration difficulties, this one is still DEFINITELY worth a credit or cash.
