About this listen

Number one New York Times best seller.

Winner of the 2014 Living Now Book Award for Inspirational Memoir.

"An enormously smart, clear-eyed, brave-hearted, and quite personal look at the benefits of meditation." (Elizabeth Gilbert)

Nightline anchor Dan Harris embarks on an unexpected, hilarious, and deeply skeptical odyssey through the strange worlds of spirituality and self-help and discovers a way to get happier that is truly achievable.

After having a nationally televised panic attack, Dan Harris knew he had to make some changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he found himself on a bizarre adventure involving a disgraced pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, Harris realized that the source of his problems was the very thing he always thought was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable voice in his head, which had propelled him through the ranks of a hypercompetitive business but had also led him to make the profoundly stupid decisions that provoked his on-air freak-out.

Finally, Harris stumbled upon an effective way to rein in that voice, something he always assumed to be either impossible or useless: meditation, a tool that research suggests can do everything from lower your blood pressure to essentially rewire your brain. 10% Happier takes listeners on a ride from the outer reaches of neuroscience to the inner sanctum of network news to the bizarre fringes of America’s spiritual scene and leaves them with a takeaway that could actually change their lives.

Absolutely Wonderful

Dan’s storytelling capabilities are superb. At no point was I yearning for the book to move faster, or for the book to be over. I adored listening to his transformation, and his “normalcy” that he exudes is so refreshing.

Funny and insightful

Great introduction to meditation and Buddhism told in an easy-listening quip-a-minute style. The last hour of the book is a variety-pack of guided meditations by different presenters.

Great narration! But slow to the point...

Great story telling & memoir....not very focused on reader's benefit or practical advice. Dont regret it, just more memoir style than i anticipated.

Incredible

The most grounded, accessible book on mindfulness I’ve ever read. If you are a busy-brained skeptic wanting to be in your head less and be present more this is the book for you.

Life changing read—and terribly entertaining and humorous

I hadn’t expected to be so drawn in and amused by Dan Harris’s account of his life as a broadcast journalist who gets assigned the religion beat a week before 9/11. and his career covering wars and breaking news for ABC. His account of coping with an on air panic attack that launches him on a search to quiet his mind and calm his nerves. Best of all I found my way to a impactful 10 min a day meditation practice that indeed sends amazingly positive ripples through my life despite living in his time of great upheaval.

Might turn you into a meditation believer

This is well written and narrated. The way Mr. Harris presents his scepticism towards meditation drew me in, and has convinced me meditation is indeed worth a try.

A Meditation Adventure

A great and unique read for the genre. Harris’s skepticism and occasional acerbic humor makes this meditation book different from most. It’s also a narrative, and an adventure.

Everybody’s experience in approaching and practicing meditation is unique. However, I think most readers will find a connection with Harris’s personal journey and will profit in their own practice. I personally really enjoyed it and have listened to this audiobooks three times in as many years.

The last hour of this version of the audio book contains guided meditations.
