Helping so much with my anxiety

Never knew my anxiety was triggering behaviors that ruined my goals. I thought I was a victim of anxiety, but this gives me power to overcome my behaviors now that I understand them.

Good content

Great insights in the book. Narration was really distracting. She sounds like an uptight Highschool teacher meets the Stephen Hawkins voice. Hard to focus on the book.

Very well done and easy to follow

I love that I decided to go with the audiobook for this one because it helped me to receive the information so much better. Besides the fact it was easier to do the exercises, I loved I could go back and listen to certain parts again. I didn't realize how much I talk down to myself or fail at fulfilling goals because I avoid certain deadlines or situations. It really makes you stop and look into yourself, no joke and find out what is the root to the issues at hand. Dr. Judy lays it out there for you with facts, understanding, and warmth. She makes you feel as if you're learning from a friend rather than hard facts in a self-help book. I personally loved the in-depth self-reflection (I had been avoiding this), the steps she provides to help me to move past some things like my love of procrastination. Its a well done, well-read, a fabulous audiobook that I look forward to listening to it over and over to help me work through my own self-sabotage. Loved it!

Great info but...

Lots of homework and Journaling that is hard to do with an audio book. You'll definitely need the companion guide and a journal. I'll listen again and do the work because I think it's practical.

Gently but directly stated. Excellent guidance to alter life habits where we get in our own way. Enjoyed this book immensely.

Refresh your life cache annually with this book

I am no stranger to self-help books. The obvious gotcha with ANY type of book in this genre is obvious: you only get out of it what you put in after reading. You can agree and "oh yeah" all through the title, but if that's where it ends, you're not really helping yourself and you are actually wasting a lot of your time. What I really enjoyed most about this book is two-fold: first, with it being an audio book, I was able to enjoy some motivation while focusing on another self-improving act (walking on the treadmill). I really love audiobooks for this activity, and the performance for Stop Self-Sabotage is very well done; the reading is clear, concise, thorough and pleasing to my ear. Believe it or not, that is a deal-breaker for me, so it's why I was so pleased in this instance. Second, because it's an audio book, I was happy to have the option to print out a workbook that the author gives instructions for throughout the book. I was concerned that any action items or directives I needed to take from the book may be lost because of its format, but the link for the free print-out directed me away from that potential pitfall and offered some wonderful exercises and helpful action items to improve my approach in many ways. One exercise in particular resonates with me strongly and is very helpful, and that is Developing Values-Based Goals. Some of the other exercises that I found helpful where the "Yes, But" exercise and "Keeping your Values Handy." I definitely recommend this book for anyone looking to figure out the real reason you're not happy or moving in the direction you want and correcting it once and for all, and I intend to re-listen annually to be sure I keep myself in check.
