Taking my power back

This book gave me permission to understand my situation. All the therapy in the world can not convey the realizations and moments of impact in this book.
I found because my healing path has already started, chapters 8-16 were really impactful and left me feeling a sense of freedom from thinking “why” and I’m forever grateful for this step!

#notalone

I now know and accept that healing is a life long journey. That my feelings are real. That someone else gets the feeling nervous everyday & waiting for the floors to open at anytime. Thank you for being brave & vulnerable to tell your story, to share your inner, deepest thoughts. You are my hero .

Very Much Needed

Those of us who come from toxic families need to know these lessons and examples she is discussing. I wish I would have known all of this sooner. It would have made my transition out of the family easier and I would have done it sooner.

Loved it

I loved this book, I just wanted to hug it! It made me truly think about the abuse I've been subjected to as a child and realize that it's okay to let your toxic family members go; you don't need to have a relationship with them if they are toxic. This book explains what toxic families are, how to set boundaries, and finally learn to heal and take care of yourself, most importantly. Definitely recommend!

Not alone

Very easy to understand, reasonable, affirming. We set boundaries to protect ourselves. It affirms familes role is to improve our lives but this does not actually happen so this is the plan b.

Incredibly validating

I’ve never reviewed a book on here before, but this book was so incredibly validating and insightful. I’m going on 2 years of no contact with my immediate family and this book described some of my relatives and my relationships with them exactly as they were. I don’t know anyone else who has cut off family, and it is isolating and lonely to have this experience alone. But hearing all of my experiences, trauma, and feelings validated in this book means so much and helps to feel less alone in such a unique circumstance.

Get this book!!!

Fantastic audible version of her book. The hard copy was sold out, so I bought this version. The book requires you to put in mental and emotional work. Listen in sections if you need to take a break. Revisit areas and bookmark many. Listen with a notebook in hand. Be prepared to unleash things you’ve buried inside of you. If you’re a person on this planet, you’ll benefit from this book in numerous ways. You’ll be empowered and empower others when you’re finished.

Understanding and loving myself

A must for anyone who has experienced the pain, self-doubt, and uncertainty that comes from toxic family members. Understanding why I feel these wounds helps me in my healing process. It also helps me understand and love myself, something that is new to me at 50+. Thank you!!!

I am not alone!

In listening to book, i didn’t feel so alone. I have cut my ties to my adoptive siblings but i am fortunate enough that I have a bio family. My bio family is more supportive way more adaptive. My adoptive parents have both passed away and same with my bio parents or o should say donors or community service providers where ever they went. I am so grateful fir this book and i will refer the book onto my clients. Thanks Dr. Campbell and Wendy Behary.
