Publisher's summary

A town put to the sword. The young forcibly recruited. An old man out for revenge.

After his town is put to the sword and the children are taken to replace the fallen, an old man is out for revenge. He’s ready to fail at the most difficult challenge in the world: cultivation.

Too corrupted to even take the first steps, the sly old elder simply agreed with those who told him that it was impossible. Then, he quietly ignored them, rubbed his hands together, and started anyway. He had always failed in what he did: He lost his way from the academy, his command was devastated by a mage, he lost his town, and now his last hopes for the future had been stolen by a group of raiders. The only thing that had never failed him was his sharp mind and philosophy. He would cultivate...no matter what it cost him.

A lifetime of failure can dull and dampen a soul. A reason to live, a goal, can change that in an instant. It is always darkest just before the dawn.

A fun ride

A worthy expansion of the Divine Dungeon series. The main villain was over the top and the final fight silly as a non cultivator shouldn't be that durable but the overall book was great fun. Travis is also excellent.

Nice feel good story!

I'm usually not into cultivation stories but this had such a good story all around that I would believe the elder would succeed. Thank you for a nice story.

Perfect addition to The Divine Dungeon series

This book was amazing! It made me laugh, cry, get angry, sometimes all three. The writing matched up so well with the feel of the world and the narrator had a great variety of voices, it was really easy to know who was speaking next. The deeper explanations of cultivation was also very fascinating. The world building was always great before but this just expanded so much more. I wish it didn't leave on such a cliffhanger, I need more!

Addictive and enthralling

My only complaint is that it had to end, I can’t wait for the next installment.
