About this listen

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is one of the most popular - and most effective - treatments for mental health conditions that result from out-of-control emotions. Combining elements of cognitive behavior therapy with Eastern mindfulness practice, DBT was initially used as a powerful treatment to address the suffering associated with borderline personality disorder. It has since proven to have positive effects on many other mental health conditions and is frequently found in nonclinical settings, such as schools. Whether you struggle with depression, anger, phobias, disordered eating, or want to have a better understanding of emotions and how to focus and calm your mind, DBT practice serves the needs of those facing anything from regular life challenges to severe psychological distress.

DBT for Dummies shows how DBT can teach new ways not just to reverse but to actively take control of self-destructive behaviors and negative thought patterns, allowing you to transform a life of struggle into one full of promise and meaning. Used properly and persistently, the skills and strategies in this book will change your life: When you can better regulate emotions, interact effectively with people, deal with stressful situations, and use mindfulness on a daily basis, it's easier to appreciate what's good in yourself and the world and then act accordingly.

Very useful introduction for patients and therapists

This book covers a lot about DBT and it’s theoretical underpinnings. It may be a little too much for laypeople, on extent and complexity but I think that’s necessary because the therapeutic model in itself is robust.

Irritating voice

Who would choose this narrator on purpose. I appreciate the information but listening to this squeaky cartoon voice narrator ruins it. Her voice is like nails on a chalk board. It is worse than when my toddler watches Mickey Mouse.

Good information on DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) audio is an easy to understand review of DBT with easy to understand examples that explain and summarize the therapeutic aspects of this treatment modality. The authors explain how DBT is a type of talk therapy for people who experience emotions very intensely. The authors also do an excellent job explaining how DBT can be used with borderline personality disorder and other mental health conditions as well. Overall an excellent audio book.

Excellent Book

Exceeded expectations. Couldn't have asked for a better, more detail oriented resource in regards to d
DBT.

Good information overall but the narrative is not soothing or interesting.

Garbage

More self-defecting drivel to enhance the blame on the victim. Is your husband beating the sh*t out of you and your community turning their back to you as you seek help to get out? Blame yourself, your thought processes and negative perceptions. Are you a victim of a cyber stalker who made billions from the torture and humiliation of you and your child’s life while everyone including the health community (and the federal government)engages in the torture? His psychopathy is your problem because DBT says your emotional responses belong to you. Does your torture include the mental anguish and constant cyber torture associated with every act of self-actualization/self-affirming activity (predesigned by the psychologically elite) while the vice president mocks your existence comparing your situation to that of descendants who experience similar who are no longer living? Enjoy your r*pe because you are responsible for every emotion you have. DBT people base their beliefs on a functioning system that works. If a white man can create a $26 billion company off of the unnecessary exploitation and humiliation of one of the poorest people in society(and their child) because it’s fun to do so, you don’t have a functioning society. Let me know when you’ve updated this garbage to include prisoners of war and the long term psychologically tortured. No one told the guy in the Goulag to think happy thoughts and, at the end, Anne Frank died. DBT Get real. Go DBT the psychopaths that spend their time torturing me. When they stop and it works for them, I’ll revisit your drivel.

Voice difficult to listen to

The material is excellent. But the narrator’s voice is the most difficult for me to listen to in my Audible library of hundreds of books.
