Publisher's summary

The initiation is relentless. A new quest is imminent.

Triumphant over Anthony Ricci, Alistair now holds the title of Earth's second strongest human, his name etched on the leaderboard. His territory, the Northeast Freehold, stands as a bastion and sanctuary for humankind in the eastern United States. Backed by formidable allies, he is ready for the battles ahead.

But the most daunting trials lurk around the corner. Threats abound in every guise – fellow humans, Demon Kings, and enlightened beasts. The fate of Earth hangs in the balance, to be swayed by those with strength.

Amidst the chaos of conflict, Alistair has one unwavering intention – to become the strongest.

I love this series, nothing more to say. I hope after the current quest ends he and his friends will get stronger on distant planets and start an arc there.I want more!

Great sequel

Loved the book. Some long fight scenes but great progression and lots of good setup for future arcs. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Had trouble at first getting into it but it picked up fast…

I had trouble at first but I got grabbed by the story and it didn’t want to let go… even at late/early hours of the day.

It starts out with the aftermath of the climatic “war” with Anthony and his little empire. Then consolidation and planning for the future.
There are some growing pains and certain obstacles that I wasn’t really a fan of but it is important. And since it isn’t an error but a preference, I don’t take it from the rating.
Once it picks back up with the new challenge and it is a lot fun! With its own nuances that are a treat.
The storytelling keeps getting better. The plot weaving is superb. The character development is on the edge for the MC with the weight of the world and decisions he will have to make to not only help others but remain true to himself and the Dao he has claimed. The fighting keeps growing in its intensity and intricacies. The lore is pretty frigging epic and leaves me on the edge of my seat for more!
The narrator is awesome and continues to breathe life into the characters and their stories! I hope the next one comes out soon!!!

Good second book

This one explained a lot about the Tao and powers. Sometimes it was a little tedious in the explanations but that's probably because I was looking for the action/fighting sequences to start. Those are really well written by the way. I think those explanations will become very important in the next book and the mc get a lot stronger. You can see that there is a buildup happening in the background with outside factions looking to interfere with Earth. Even though the book is very MC-centric, there are a lot of moving parts and pov's in the universe. I think book 3 will see a lot more action due to this book's buildup or strength, political movement, and his overall advances in strength and powers. Overall, this was a pretty good book

Better than the first

So the first book was a little ruff but not bad but this one really steps it up. The author takes a lot from DOTF and a couple other books but over all he does a good job of making his own path.

Damn that was good.

Well, it was better than the excellent book 1. Wonderfully executed with a good ending. Narration was on point. I grew to love the characters. I just hope book 3 isn't a letdown. The letdown usually happens in book 3.

The Tao of wasted second chances.

This book was a complete waste of a credit. It has way to much filler in it. We don't need entire chapters discussing how the Tao works in your universe nor mana. Absolutely nothing interesting happens until at least chapter 12.
