About this listen

Being a superhero should be fun. After all, a world of super powers is a world where Amazonian juggernauts made of candy battle guys in spandex that drive talking cars. Irene loves that weirdness, loves the game of fighting, and loves being a four-foot-tall woman who still gets to drop big heavy objects on villains' heads. In 1980, that fun is in danger. A mad scientist who murders people for his research has everyone afraid. Two of the friendliest super-powered rivals around stop playing and go for the kill. If superheroes and villains aren't safe in their own homes, how can having powers be anything but a nightmare? Irene will not let that happen. She wants to show her friends - a 10-year-old grim reaper and a zombie mish-mosh of living and metal parts - that their lives don't have to be grim. With the help of a superintelligent spider, Team Tiny will make the world fun again. Except maybe it's the spider who's in charge after all.

Fun and interesting prequel to the series

Any additional comments?

If you are picking this book up clearly you already know that this precedes the previous books in this series. It is interesting to see the way that the various heroes and villains got their start. The characters are fun and interesting, and the universe itself is consistent to its own rules. A big plus for me! I was at first dubious, but I'm glad I finally picked it up. It was a fun ride throughout and while it is missing the inscrutable machine as it predates their birth, it's still a fun read. If you like the first ones you know you're in a pick this one up, so stop dithering and do it.

Loved this book,

Would you listen to I Did NOT Give That Spider Superhuman Intelligence! again? Why?

yes. The story was plenty entertaining, and the performance was outstanding

What other book might you compare I Did NOT Give That Spider Superhuman Intelligence! to and why?

Hard to compare this book with any other. Yes, there are other superhero books out there, many of which are satirical, but none are quite the same style or mood of the "please dont tell my parents" series which richard roberts has created. Its just a quite unique approach.

What about Emily Woo Zeller’s performance did you like?

What didnt I like? Ms. Zeller simply did an outstanding job. She really brought the characters to life. Each character was distinct not just in tone, but in patterns of speech and even dialect

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Learning the origins of Spider was fairly moving. Thats not a spoiler, as anyone who has read this series should be able to surmise from the title that Spider would have her origins explained here. I cant really go into more details about the book without giving more away than is prudent

Any additional comments?

I hope the author keeps it up with this series. And pray that he never loses Ms. Zeller as a narrator because she seriously hits the nail on the head with this series.

light and full of fun and humor. buy this book.

rain patterns on roof tops of the crazy baying midget of the thousand feet tall land shark of happiness. I endorse the pop doctor and all his clasicly trained flying monkeys.

Funny and really well voiced!

I really enjoy the Please Don't Tell My Parents books. This was the first I've heard one on Audible. Emily Woo Zeller did a great job with all the voices, and it was very easy to tell who was talking even before the "she saids".

Great story. Fills out the world of PDTMP.

I recommend listening to it between the 3rd and 4th Penelope Ack books. Emily Woo Zeller's performance as Spider and Psychopomp were amazing, but the book may have benefited from another actress to play Irene. In long stretches of narration she sounded a little too much like Penny.

As good as, "I'm a super villain"

Please don't tell my parents I'm a super villain was a great find in story, writing, style and narrator. The sequels have yet to really live up to it. "I did not give that spider superhuman intelligence," lives up to that original confluence. Further, it is a treat for fans to see Spider and Mourning/morning dove develop and even more so to see more of Goodnight. Finally, psychopomp is a fun addition to the cast.
