About this listen

Henry and Jason somehow survived being kidnapped to Ludus, a monster-filled, sword and sorcery world. They managed to make friends, pay their rent, and they even founded their own adventuring business, Delvers LLC.

Unfortunately, by overcoming the odds and creating a reputation for themselves in such short time, monarchs and nobles have taken notice of the two men from Earth. Foreign, deadly struggles may be unavoidable for Delvers LLC.

Henry and Jason are about to discover something even more dangerous than murderous monsters on Ludus: politics.

Not complete

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book and liked the characters a lot more in this one (the first book had too much self deprecation and loathing). The story was interesting and makes you want to continue.

But, it does not feel like a complete book and more like a small stepping stone.

Why do authors have to insert political crap??

What did you love best about Obligations Incurred?

I love the overall story idea

Would you be willing to try another book from Blaise Corvin? Why or why not?

Yes, I loved the storyline, BUT I wasn't necessary for about two hours talking about the poor plight of homosexuals and being victims blah blah blah blah blah in the real world. In fact, that whole part of the storyline wasn't even needed,..but again...had to put his insights on how bad people are and homosexuals are victims that portray no hate themselves to others...just victims...

Have you listened to any of Jeff Hays’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, love them!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Nope

Any additional comments?

Fantasy books should stay in fantasy land....if I want a book on political opinions I will depress myself and watch foxnews and cnn.

It seemed to end abruptly

This is a great book same as the first full of memes, action, adventure, and D&D references. The world building and sense of mystery was still there but a little less than the first book. My only qualm with the book was that is was just too short, it didn't seem like that much happened. Maybe it was the authors intention to keep me wanting more, but the length just didn't seem to live up to my expectation. Great book overall though, keep them coming!

Fun thrill ride that rockets over the cliff

I love the authors character development the time spent in the first book building each character's background really payed off in the second book as I felt extremely emotionally invested in each of the main characters. The addition of new characters including some mystery elements leaves me anxiously waiting for the next book.

The narration was top notch both in emotional scope and variety of voices.

My favorite part has to be when one of the new characters has enough in the final battle and snaps. Note I am being vague here as to not spoil it but when you read the book it is unmistakable.

I would definitely recommend this though the first book would really help set the stage the author does a decent job of setting some groundwork so it could be a first introduction to the series.

Like Blaise and I like this series. but

Been reading this series since there was only one book. It's good. Worth it. Jeff (Narrator) is amazing. Now, to the stuff I have issues with. I think Blaise needs to write down certain stuff. Example. L.E.D.F. Left Eye Data Feed. One scene Jason is telling Henry how dumb it is then the next Jason is talking to himself about how Henry should "get with the program" with it. There are a LOT of little things like this. Granted this is the problem when you read anything that doesn't have real editors and stuff. Another thing is the blatant disregard for factual, biological science. I get that in this world Females outnumber Males. That doesn't change the fact that Males are more powerful than Females. Physically. There are certain cultural situations that he's made that make no sense. This is more my problem than his I suppose. Facts are facts are facts. I have a difficult problem when stuff goes against the physical REALITY of things. Even in a place like that it doesn't change anything. I just have to ignore it.
Now for the more up to date stuff. I like the Nora series, but I'm afraid to read book 4 and 5 because I've read a lot of reviews I trust. I knew he was gonna put Nora into the Delvers. Which is good. Thing is she needs to be subordinate to Jason and Henry big time. THEY are the Delvers. They are the reason people read this series. Slowly crank up Nora's power and all that. That's fine... But she can't be any real match for Jason and Henry. I'm not saying that she is. I'm saying that there's obviously been too much emphasis on her all together. Dont "Main" her as much as the other Delvers. If you want her to be "MC" then make Delvers Side Quests or something and MC her.
I'm gonna continue on to 4 and 5 after this reread through this time. And I think I'll like them. Probably much more than all the bummed out folks because I do actually like Nora. I just Know that after this book Jason proves that he is just a bit more powerful than Henry. Jeez even Kega (Keja?) said he'd be the only one that could survive during the dungeon part. Goes back to my whole point that Corvin needs to write stuff down. It's like he's just writing and not story boarding or making even the most basic of outlines. I'm worried that a bunch of people will quit reading Delvers because he just keeps ADHDing characters. I think I will like 4 and 5 for the most part. I just know that if Henry and Jason get supplanted by Nora then it won't be worth continuing even though I like Nora. I like her but she is just not as entertaining as the other 2.
