About this listen

The looming war with Darrow has faded to a distant shadow, but Will’s continued studies at Wurthaven are disrupted by an unforeseen threat.

Selene’s absence has raised suspicion among her friends and Will’s father-in-law, the king, is now directing his ire at the obvious culprit: his daughter’s new husband. Meanwhile, the citizens of Cerria have begun disappearing and a shadowy figure is stalking Will’s sister, Laina.

With his power pushed to the limit, Will finds himself attempting to preserve a family that rejected him and trying to save a city whose king might rather see him dead. Desperate for help, he may not be able to trust the powers that have supported him in the past, for though the fae could be the source of the catastrophe, they only offer their assistance for a price. Evil stalks the streets of Cerria at night, seeking the blood of his family, the destruction of the city, and the death of the king.

Will may have to decide what is most important for Terabinia: preserving the people of its most prosperous city or saving its questionable ruler.

One of my new favorite series!

Grabs and won't let go! Grandfather is hilarious. It's a must-read/listen. I can't wait to use my next credit on book 4.

Very clever.... very.

Michael g Manning is very sneaky. I feel like the world he has created is already what established fantasy is. what my brain doesn't realize is that well he takes broad concepts from other established fantasy he makes them his own in an incredible way. Michael g Manning is able to take all the best concepts from fantasy and channel them into his own different world with its own different rules.
the only reason I would dock one star for the story is that it felt episode to me. maybe it was the disappearance of his wife.

3 Star Review

This book is the third book in the series. I had expected this book to be much more in depth with a real bad guy. This book does not deliver. There is no main goal for the protagonist. He simply has to deal with the problem at hand. These problems do not flow with the story. They feel contrived. Whenever Will needs something it seems to fall from the sky. He keeps going into situations with no plan and then executes things perfectly. He finds the exact information that he needs every single time. Even the loss of his powers at the beginning are only there so that he doesn’t kill one of the main characters of the book. While I am critical of some of the story elements, I enjoyed the book and will probably listen to the next one. However, it still feels like the main story hasn’t happened yet. This book and the one before it feel like side quests that cause emergencies. I hope that the next book has a bit more of the main story line.

A whole new level to fantasy!

Harry Potter was good (for story time), the Inheritance Cycle was amazing (for new fantasy readers) but Art of the Adept give a whole new world and experiences of fantasy. From a adult perspective Art of the Adept is on par with the long running Dresden series by Jim Butcher. Can’t wait for more…

That's all that needs to be said but this needs fifteen words or more.

Relatable, complete character development.

A very refreshing series. Unique world/Magik, great character development, full and unexpected scenarios. And a terrific narrator.
