Learn about how and why to set boundaries

This audiobook was a great listen. I personally resonated with the chapter on understanding and setting boundaries with family members. The example of Michelle recognizing her grandmother is emotionally unstable, and learning to be comfortable putting boundaries in place, using all of this to stop the verbal abuse she was experiencing. I feel that this is the transformative behavior that those of us with trauma can benefit from learning. My grandmother is increasingly becoming emotionally unstable as well, and this book reminded me that I don't have to correct every single thing she does, but to use assertiveness to create some boundaries. It will help you figure out what to do in your life to make things easier. The book doesn't just tell you to do things, it actually explains how those things will transform your life. Life with boundaries is simpler. You will learn how to identify what your boundaries are, how to enforce them, where you're lacking them, and how to reenforce. Glad I found this. Would honestly recommend it to anyone.

What you will learn by listening to Linda Hill’s Audiobook - Setting Boubdaries

I think Linda Hill’s audio books are always very helpful. They are great to listen to when taking walks because you will learn something even if you think you are familiar with the topic at hand.

In this case, Setting Boundaries was a great reminder that keeping, maintaining & setting boundaries are necessary in life. Helpful tips like journaling, which is a tip given throughout this audio book, will help one clearly identify what their boundaries are in a variety of situations and relationships. Through Setting Boundaries- my main take away was in order to obtain peace within myself, it is ok to be honest with myself and others about what my boundaries are in various situations. And if someone is able to understand or respect my boundaries then it is up to me to decide how much time & energy I will give them moving forward.

Setting Boundaries is especially helpful to someone who struggles with asserting theirselves. But it’s also a helpful reminder to anyone who listens to this audiobook as well.

The first few steps to a better life

I first started listening to this book on my way to work. This weekend I decided to sit down and focus on listening to what it had to say with nothing to distract me. I don't think of myself as a people pleaser but I realized that I'm not actually good at setting boundaries with people that I actually care about. Kindness was my focus rather than assertiveness if you were my friend. When they start asking for things that take away from me I fail to be assertive since I am afraid of ruining their image of me as a strong and reliable person. That's not healthy and needs to stop. I thank Linda for helping me with this and maybe I got this book too late since I think that I am already at rock bottom right now because of how I chose to start and maintain my relationships...but I think with a little bit of commitment and by following her advice I think I will come out of it as a stronger person. My happiness and boundaries is what I am responsible for. Communication and respect is key.

Excellent book. It's such a life-changer.

I have listened to this book twice and I like how Linda Hill explains clearly the best ways to communicate with assertiveness and advocate more about myself. My wife has been telling me to stop pleasing people too much but honestly I didn't know how to do it. It hurts when the people I am pleasing take my kindness for weakness. When she recommended me this book, this was a game changer. Having listened to it just a few days ago, I have noted that I have become more assertive and I have stopped feeling guilty when I say no to people.
If you're looking for ways to quit your people-pleasing addiction and start setting boundaries - healthy boundaries, this is the right book for you. You can't go wrong with this.

Informative

This was an enjoyable and interesting listening to me. The chapter on understanding and establishing boundaries with family members spoke to me personally. An illustration of this is when Michelle realized her grandmother was emotionally unstable, learned to feel at ease setting boundaries, and used all of this to halt the verbal abuse she was receiving. I believe that learning this transforming habit is something that those of us who have experienced trauma may profit from. This book taught me that even if my family is growing more emotionally unstable, I don't have to correct everything they do and instead can set some limits using assertiveness. This book has assisted me in deciding what to do to simplify my life. This book is for you if you're looking for strategies to break free from your people-pleasing addiction and start establishing healthy boundaries. With this book, life becomes more clear and simple, I have recommended all my friends to read this, especially the annoying ones as this will clarify most of the concerns they have been having about my relations with them.

Setting Boundaries

Very detailed, informative after the second chapter, seeing as certain aspects were repeated in the beginning of the book. After chapter 2 though various examples are listed and explained in great detail. The words were very descriptive and vast.
It was a bit lengthy but it has a lot of information if you stick it in for the long haul.

Straightforward, helpful book!

It is true that setting boundaries is far more difficult than we would want to admit. Linda does an excellent job of explaining why this is the case and pointing out the warning signs. This straightforward, helpful book discusses why being assertive, despite its importance, feels unpleasant. The book is really beneficial to me since it validates my assertiveness and crushes any guilt I might occasionally feel when I set boundaries, especially with close friends and family. There is a wealth of useful knowledge that I will draw upon. Many thanks, Linda! I will undoubtedly suggest this book to many.

Wow!! Just Woww!!!

Setting Boundaries is a very good book. It is full of helpful advice on how to set and maintain healthy boundaries with others. In the book, Linda Hill provides readers with the tools they need to assert themselves in healthy ways and set boundaries with others.

The book is roughly divided into three parts: 1) understanding your needs and setting reasonable boundaries; 2) assertiveness; setting assertive limits; and 3) getting support when needed. Each section includes exercises for practice, as well as a discussion of common pitfalls to avoid.

The narrotor's speech is clear and concise, making this book easy to follow even for people like me who are just trying out audiobooks for the first time. I'd say this book is helpful for people who want to learn more about assertiveness in general, or understand how behaviors impacts their relationships.
