About this listen

Fleeing from a vengeful king has sent the former NPCs across Solium's borders, into the kingdom of Alcatham. As wanted fugitives, they head to the small farming village of Briarwillow, hoping to blend in, lay low, and avoid trouble at all costs. Unfortunately, Briarwillow has problems all its own, and its troubles quickly become theirs. If they hope to survive long enough to escape, they'll have to tackle an all-but-forgotten mystery buried at the town's border as well as seek the wisdom of a mysterious group of mages. With time, magic, and at least one god against them, it will take everything they've got to save Briarwillow - and themselves.

Amazing

This was an amazing and fun book. Somehow capturing the innocence and power of the first one and building complexity into characters I've come to love. A fun enjoyable book with a great narrator. Can't wait for next one.

An unexpected gem

Would you listen to Split the Party again? Why?

i really enjoy the book and felt like as a person that games a lot with paper rpg's the book is super fun, engaging the readers and carrying a good story along with it. Something are left unexplained, but i feel like thats just a set up for the next book. I enjoyed the book the first time around and have no doubt i would love it the second time around.

Great characters, great story.

A fantasy story managing to break from typical fantasy tropes, without trying too hard. V

Makes me miss playing!

A fun story! As a player, it reminds me of the good old days! A rich and charming world. Very humorous and engaging and well performed. A wonderful sequel to NPC's! I can't hardly wait for the next book!

interesting story

Okay just finished the second book in this interesting story. if your not a fan of rpgs I doubt you'll find this interesting.
The story involves two worlds. supposedly one like ours where a group is playing the game and a second world in which the projected characters appear in.
in the second world a group of friends try to stay alive.
In the first book the group of friends masqueraded as adventures, those projections from our world, to prevent the stupid deaths of the adventurerers from bring down destruction on their home. (read more in the first book)
While the friends now find themselves true adventurers now their stakes are significantly higher as death to them is not so simple to fix as rerollling a character.
While I am sure this sounds confusing, and it is, it leads to an interesting plot device. yes it had been used many times before, but here I find it charming. The first book had the people from our world being giant asses. This book they aren't so easy to be disgusted with.
Overall I find this book a good 2nd book in a series but not as good as the first. A common occurrence in the second book of a series.

Author and narrator are great

I first discovered this author in another series. I decided to look at more of his books and found this series. the first book took a bit to get into but half way through it and all through this one I have been sucked in.

The narrator is equally as important and this is a fantastic narrator. He adds a whole lot to the story by the way he reads.

A phenomenal fantasy series

I adore this series. Not only is it entertaining, but it's also given me a few ideas for my own campaigns and stories. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Made of good stuff

Some series in this genre tend to deteriorate into megalomania or sometimes interestingly arraigned garbage. This series, so far , isn't spoiled. I can just enjoy it , and I do!

Really like it

The first time through the book I jumped directly to the next book in the series and didn't bother with the review. This second time i will write a review though i don't have much to say.

I like this story and this series. The story would be considered simplistic by most, just a little adventure with likeable characters with a hint of something more. Simple and fun and I like it.

Story: Fun
Characters: Likeable
Narrator: excellent

People who want dark, gritty, "realistic", deep, or hidden "meaning" probably can skip it as it is none of those things. thought they will miss some fun. Also, while it is LitRPG, like the first book it is mostly focused on the NPCs so don't expect stat pages or village building type stuff as it is their real world.
