Publisher's summary

The New York Times best-selling author of The Beck Diet Solution teams up with her daughter and colleague at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior to teach listeners how to think their way thin, offering practical, proven tools for escaping common diet traps for good.

Most diet programs work at first. But then life happens - stress, bad habits, holidays, travel - and we revert to bad habits, and the weight comes back. In this invaluable audiobook, Dr. Judith Beck offers the solution to break free from these common diet traps and keep the weight off for life.

Dr. Beck explains that when it comes to losing weight, it's not just about what we eat. It's also about how we think. To consistently eat differently, we must learn to think differently. Diets fail us because they don't offer effective strategies for overcoming the common traps - emotional eating, social pressure, dining out - that can derail us. Now she and her daughter, Deborah Beck Busis, share the techniques they have successfully used with thousands of clients, revealing how to overcome the thoughts and behaviors that have held us back. With The Diet Trap Solution, listeners on any diet regimen can learn to identify their specific diet traps and create action plans to strengthen their "resistance muscle" - making losing weight easy, sustainable, and enjoyable.

Very Insightful

Lots of great guidance in this book. It takes her first book a step deeper into how to counteract our own excuses and deal with challenging situations and people.

A dieters must read

If you are trying to lose weight mindset is half the battle. This book gives you tools for that. It gives you scenarios and how to handle them. I would have the audible version and the hard copy version. This book is an invaluable resource.

Felt like I was being talked down to

While there may be some good tips included in this book, there's nothing new. Tips include using affirmations, keeping a journal, etc. What I really didn't care for is how I was being "talked down to" by the authors throughout the book. The intention, apparently, was to make it interesting as there just isn't enough material to fill a whole book. There's lots of fluff and it seemed like a book for a 3rd grader. I got a little more than half way through trying to force myself to finish it, but just couldn't go on.

Good advice, but...

The content is decent and there are some really good tips here. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the author is the Psychologist behind Noom. Seems like similar strategies and mindsets.
That said, this was clearly the wrong narrator for the job. She would be much better suited to a children's book or even a romance novel. So flowery and overly dramatic for this type of content.

Ruined by narration.

I think the content of this book is very good, but the narration is awful. Overly dramatic, condescending at times, sing-songy and better suited for a children's book. I couldn't even finish it.
The hard copy of this book is probably worthwhile though.

Couldn't listen to the narration

I struggled through about 10 minutes. I should have listened to a sample. The narration would be fitting for a children's primary book, but it was like being talked down to. I really wanted to listen, but just couldn't.
