About this listen

An Amazon best-selling series! Includes all three books in the Nova Online Trilogy.

Imprisoned for a murder he didn’t commit, Kaiden’s only hope of early release is in serving as a Warden in the game-world of Nova Online.

Playing as a unique class while surrounded by aliens, pirates and warring guilds, he and his squad are tasked with protecting new players and enforcing the rule of law.

But Kaiden has other ideas; he is intent on proving his innocence. The keys to his freedom lie hidden in the game’s seedy underbelly. And as he’ll soon discover, the bloody trail that led to his arrest is more twisted than he could have ever imagined.

Cpt Obvious

The main character has a habit of pointing out the obvious and repeating himself.

The supporting characters were more interesting by far. Even the stuff happening in the real world was better than the stuff in Nova at times and I was sad that we lost that aspect in the last book.

Also, it's Lass-oh not Lahs-sue.. the Texan in me cringed every time that ability was used.

Finally - you don't need to do character stat updates every level. We get it, you get 1 stat in each spot per level + 3 that they dumped into their main attribute. There aren't confusing stat bumps based on race or strange unknown bonuses with weird combos that have to be explained.

Overall - I did enjoy it but there was some grinding involved to push through to the next part of a story.

Great story

If you like sci-fi gaming stories listen to this one. It has some plot holes but it’s worth the mental fortitude required to look pass them.

Good story. Too many stage whispers.

I wanted a sci-fi litrpg, and that’s what I got. Hearing the characters often “shout” in a stressed stage whisper made my listening experience less enjoyable.

Not what I expected... in a good way

there may have been some repetitive reading if game notifications, and a few times an item was picked up and never used, but overall a solid book. there are people who would say that the science isn't good enough, but it's a science FICTION novel. give some breathing room! the author, although this seems to be his first book, did an excellent job for a flagship. the story was a bit predictable at times but there were others where I was taken aback by Kaiden's thinking outside the box. overall, solid work, Mr. Knight

it kept me listening

It was somewhat predictable on a few points, but still i enjoyed it very much. I question some of the pronunciation of a few words, but overall I enjoyed the performance.

Decent story almost killed by the narrator

The story was ok. The battles almost ridiculous, but what I could not stand was the narration. I give him 2 stars for clarity.
otherwise you have to
enjoy the strange
cadence and choice of inflection
at any given time.
It caused me to stop listening for a long time. I came back to it because I needed a long book.

great story, terrible narration

i will never listen to another book narrated by Todd boyce. he has the charisma of a sloth. he will literally read a line as if he's half asleep that is supposed to be yelled or screamed. he only has about 3 voices and still would use the wrong one in conversations. and don't get me started on the mispronunciations.

other than that, the story was pretty neat.

Love the story but…

Overall, I loved the concept and the basis of the story. I was able to make it through the three books but it was a grind.
Here’s why:
1) From beginning to end, every time an ability is activated it includes a full explanation of the ability destroying immersion completely.
2) Combat scenes make no sense. For the MC to see all that’s going on, they are more of a spectator than a fighter. Also, in most of the fights, especially against stronger opponents they attack one at a time? Really?
There are other issues with combat as well.
As a combat veteran, listening to the fight scenes was absolute torture.
3) The MC never really evolves during the story, though everyone around him does. He goes through changes but never accepts the role everyone else sees him in all the way to the bitter end.
4) The narrator has some skill but he has trouble conveying emotions and excitement during high-tension scenes, making the snorefests.

Its... fine, I guess?

Nothing to really praise, but nothing to complain about either. It was an ok trilogy. I finished it, and don't actively regret listening to it, but thats about the best praise I can give it. If what you want is an incredibly mediocre literary experience, this is what you are looking for.

Only one complaint

The series was great, the ending a bit abrupt but still nice. My only issue is the narrator, while he has a great voice, isn’t the clearest narrator so at lower volumes it can be difficult to understand him.
