Publisher's summary

The Human Magnet Syndrome: The Codependent Narcissist Trap is a complete rewrite of Ross's first book. Ross provides a more explicit rendering of The Human Magnet Syndrome, that includes new theories, explanations, and concepts. The information on Gaslighting and The Narcissistic Abuse Syndrome, like the rest of the information, is cutting edge and completely original. This audiobook contains many more case examples and stories of Ross's own codependency recovery. Like its predecessor, it is written for both the layman and professional. Men and women have been magnetically and irresistibly drawn together into romantic relationships, not so much by what they see, feel and think, but more by invisible forces.

Codependents and pathological narcissists are enveloped in a seductive dreamlike state; however, it will later unfold into a painful “seesaw” of love, pain, hope, and disappointment. The soul mate of the codependent's dreams will become the narcissist of their nightmares. Fans of The Human Magnet Syndrome will better understand why they, despite their dreams for true love, find themselves hopelessly and painfully in love with partners who hurt them.

Life-changing

Years of research, YEARS of therapy, self-help books, intense emotional intelligence training/therapy...none brought it all together like this book did. NOW I get it. Now I understand why I would repeatedly choose the men I did. Now I see the LONG lines of codependent vs narcissist relationships on BOTH sides of my family. NOW I know how to end the cycle so that my kids aren’t doomed to repeat toxic history. Thank you!!!

Good, but a lot of filler

There are a lot of good insights in this book, but also a lot of speculation about politics, excessively detailed discussion of the author’s own family history, etc. which I felt detracted from the book in some ways. I recommend it, but with some reservations.

Identifying Co-dependent(SLD) and Narcissist

Book needs to be more refined. Way too long winded, Paradigms should be broken down into more digestible chunks and then complimented by just a few anecdotes. At a certain point it’s too much anecdotes.

I know the need to identify and classify yourself or see realize emerging patterns, which is why the author puts so many different scenarios and accounts. But even the accounts themselves are too long winded for that.

Good topic, nice to see new blood and ideas flowing into the narrative, but wish it was more defined

OUCH!! It hurt like heck, but I feel much better!

This is a well done presentation of the subject matter. If you think you might have these issues, you should read or listen to this book. It will help you confront and root out your core beliefs that have caused and contributed to your plight and affliction. It's worth the pain. I promise, as one so afflicted to another.

A must read for every codependent

Having just ended an 11.5 year relationship with a covert narcissist, with whom I share two children with, and being the daughter to a pathologically narcissistic father, I enjoyed learning about the HMS and took pleasure in the many "ah ha" moments I experienced in this book. The narration was rough, but speeding it up helped. I look forward to checking out Ross's YouTube channel and SLR website next!

Love the content but not acronyms

The information in the book is very valuable in relation to narcissistic abuse and how to recover from it. The only part that not convenient is the author's love for abbreviations. The acronym use quickly becomes overwhelming for the reader and makes one easily lose track.
