About this listen

Despite monsters and a small army of goblins and skeletons, Dave and family have survived their first few weeks in the harsh world of Eloria. Well, for the most part...

Eight-year-old Sara has been captured by the goblin scout, Krinnk. Nobody is sure if she was taken to be a snack or some twisted desire to protect her. Dave has found a new lease on life, a new connection with his family and a new sense of purpose. Neither he nor Emily are going to let a monster get away with their little girl.

But things are never quite as simple as they seem.

Their victory in the Battle of Eris' Rise has launched the Nelson family onto the stage of politics torn between the human kingdom to the south and the moon elves to the north.

Worse, the powers that created the death knight in the first place have more sinister plans in place and Dave's actions have marked him as an obstacle to be removed. He can only trust that his family, along with the new friends and allies they are making, will be sufficient to help them find their place in this new world.

Continue this epic LitRPG adventure with the second installment in the Life in Exile Series. It's perfect for fans of C.M Carney, Blaise Corvin, and Charles Dean.

Great second book - almost better than the first

So one thing I love about this series is that rather than following a single main character, it tells the exploits of an entire family. Each of the Nelsons are unique and take turns telling their own stories.

I think my favorite character so far is Sara, who manages to thrive despite an aversion to violence and willingness to befriend monsters. This makes her an atypical hero, which is something I appreciate in storytelling. I'm interested in finding out what happens to Krink as the story continues.

Emily allows herself to be controlled by her emotions, pushing her family away one minute and wanting to protect them the next. It's frustrating to watch, but also believable. Lots of families are this way. Emily shows a desire to improve the world by introducing them to modern American values like individualism, class equality, and (to a lesser degree) feminism, but her efforts are often counterproductive.

Dave is much more like a typical LitRPG protagonist. He loves gaming and is frustrated by the fact that everyone seems to have a special class except for him. It was fun to watch his growth as a character and as a person.

Jackson doesn't appear much in this story since he's off at school. What little of his story there was, however, was interesting.

The narration was very good, it was easy to tell who was speaking by accent alone. I recommend this second book in the series and I'm looking forward to the next one

Great follow-up to the first

This book picks up right where we last saw the Nelson's and takes on more and more perspectives which helps to tell the story. I can't wait to listen to the next book

Exciting Book

I have enjoyed this series so far. There are many good characters in the series. It moves along very quickly which is fun. The writing sometimes leaves a little more mystery to be desired, especially transferring between different parties. Looking forward to the next book.

Thoroughly enjoyed this!

Sean Oswald does a nice job bringing us into the personal worlds of the Nelson's. As the plot line switches between characters I find myself enjoying each one even as I am leaving a plot line I am enjoying quite a bit. I highly recommend this book and the series so far.

At least as good as the first book

I am really enjoying this series. Ignore the bigoted reviews that are slamming this book. Yes this book deals with racism but it is certainly an excellent story to open up discussion between everyone.

I received this free review audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Excellent

A riveting story with twists and turns but most of all excitement. The narration adding a drama yet grim tone to the book's telling.

Confusing start but great book

The beginning had many flash backs that were confusing because of the story continuity was difficult to keep track of. But once the story became mainstreamed the writing flowed and the story was fantastic!

Better then the last, and that was good too!

Just read the title, Sean Oswald builds on his past success and makes some very interesting turns in this story. There was a bit of an issue right at the start with trying to figure out what was a flashback and what was not, but after two or three you figure it out pretty quickly. Sean does a good job sign posting it.
