This is more of an introduction to his new life.

He gains skills. Learns some life lessons. Gets laid often, makes damn good friends, has a great battle partner and he is very loyal. There was some action obviously, though the best is in the end. And I gave it 3 stars because it did not have me on the edge of my seat but it did hold my attention. I am hoping the next book takes off like a rocket though. After reading the System Apocalypse series, this seems a bit slow for me. That series was like Real World meets Video Games without the new life lol.

A very enjoyable Litrpg dungeon dive book

This book was great I really enjoyed it. I've read a lot of 'transported to another worlds ' books lately so it was nice to read a story where the MC is a local to the world. This story is about the daily dungeon dives of Daniel as he struggles to be stronger. He has an innate ability that is very useful but the cost is so bad I'd consider it almost a curse.
My only complaint is the narrator, I thought he was monotone and boring but not bad enough to stop me from getting the next book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Litrpg or dungeon diving.

meh

This book seemed very short. It was mildly interesting LitRPG, but the story really didn't progress. Not worth the credit I paid for it.

I really enjoyed this book.

I will say this is now one of my favorites now. My only problem is that it is a bit short.

an enjoyable series

I found out about Tao Wong from his other series, but that series was out of new content so I checked out this series. I love the flaw in the character it's so awful. but still he uses it to save himself and his friends and sometimes strangers. There's a couple other books in this series and I'd suggest checking those out as well if you like magic, adventure, and a world with game mechanics.

A good start

This is a good first book. It introduces the world quite nicely, and the characters are interesting. I would have given this 5 stars all the way around, but I did find one thing that made it hard for me as a listener. Everything is told third person but in present tense. For example: He lifts the hammer, he heals the boy, he eats the food. My ears are preset to hear this spoken in first person, i.e I lift the spoon to my mought, or he grabs the book from my hands, or in third person past tense, he lifted the hammer, he healed the boy, he ate the food, etc. So it took me awhile to get over it and just settle into the story.

Martin is an interesting narrator, his voice conveys a lot of emotion effortlessly. Wong weaves an interesting tale, which keeps your attention. I just wish he picked a different way to tell his tale, but I have to say that once I got over it I wasn't sorry I stayed to listen. Get this book and give'er a listen!

Great Story

Great world building. Even better character development. I love the concepts regarding the gifts. The narrator threw me off at times when he would describe damage ranges as "Three minus Seven" instead of "Three to Seven". Regardless, I really enjoyed this book. Can't wait for the second on to come out in audiobook format.
