A classic of its genre

This book is the classic book given by therapist to adult children of alcoholics (ACOA). It does a good job of summarizing the features of ACOAs, While it goes some ideas of what to do about the features, the suggestions need further customization to match how the features are expressed in each person. Ergo, it's not a true "self-help" book, but it will give an ACOA insight into events that cause them problems in daily life. The narrator does a good job with fairly dry material; she does a much better job than other narrators of books dedicated to factual / clinical narration.

Validating for this lonely ACOA

almost everything noted seemed to apply to me. it was comforting to know that my feelings are not unusual and I can start on a path to recovery.

Life changer

My therapist recommended this to me and I’m so happy to have read it. I see my past life so clearly and it has helped me to move forward with the knowledge of my certain tendencies. So many light bulb moments.

Fantastic Insightful

I don't review much, however, this book was a very profound look at the inner child. I resonated with many of which she describes. I wanted more info to soak up like a sponge.

Exactly How I felt as a child.

All the characteristics are the same for everyone nor do you have all of them keep listening until you get it.

Adult child

This book really had me holding on to my heart as I listened. Having grown up with an alcoholic father I knew it really affected my life since I was very very young.
But I am beyond grateful to have heard all the many ways. Also I was astounded at how accurately the author described some of my life circumstances.
This has given me clarity and insight on how to begin my healing and recovering.
Will listen again and highly recommend to anyone who’s close to an alcoholic or close to the child of an alcoholic.

This is a great book if you grew up experiencing alcohol in the home.

What I liked about the book was how the author helped identify some issues I had growing up experiencing alcohol in the home. And while I did not agree with everything in this book,
It helped me identify my issues and learn to take responsibility for my actions as an adult. the performance of this audiobook was very good and very clear.
