Finally

I had the book in print for years and it's dog-eared pages and highlighted text well, sometimes was really hard to put down and then pick up again. Hearing it was really amazing...so glad this is in audio finally. One AHA moment that I had was the patience or "now" factor...why I must do things or have things "now" this was something I didn't fully get from the written text. I wish all her titles on this topic were in audio.

very insightful

I don't know about everyone else that read this book that is an adult child of an alcoholic I am in this certainly gave me some good insight. I love to think about us as animals and that there's patterns.

Cliffhanger

I'm left feeling raw and unfinished. But I suppose the real conclusion will be how I live the rest of my life now with this insight.

Wasn’t sure about this…

My therapist wanted me to read this book but I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. She had given me another to read which took me a year and a half to complete due to me hating it that much. This one though was the complete opposite. I was glad to find it on audible too cause I suffer from ADD and listening to someone read makes it so much easier to understand and pay attention to. I also wasn’t sure if I was going to relate to a lot in this book but sadly I did. I related to quite a bit of it actually. The narrator was also pleasant to listen to and she was easy to understand.

Talk about relief, revelation and work ahead…

Definitely recommend this book! It was a huge revelation to me, I hoped I was done with my family dynamics, but they are still there. I feel so much better understanding where all my feelings come from and look forward to change them, now that I am more aware!

Exactly How I felt as a child.

All the characteristics are the same for everyone nor do you have all of them keep listening until you get it.

Adult child

This book really had me holding on to my heart as I listened. Having grown up with an alcoholic father I knew it really affected my life since I was very very young.
But I am beyond grateful to have heard all the many ways. Also I was astounded at how accurately the author described some of my life circumstances.
This has given me clarity and insight on how to begin my healing and recovering.
Will listen again and highly recommend to anyone who’s close to an alcoholic or close to the child of an alcoholic.

This is a great book if you grew up experiencing alcohol in the home.

What I liked about the book was how the author helped identify some issues I had growing up experiencing alcohol in the home. And while I did not agree with everything in this book,
It helped me identify my issues and learn to take responsibility for my actions as an adult. the performance of this audiobook was very good and very clear.

Very enciteful

My granddaughters are acoa. I have read this book to gain knowledge and understanding of their feelings and their personalities. I am better able to help them get through and cope with their past. With the help of their counselor and the knowledge I gained in this book we are all more prepared to heal and grow. I will purchase this book for them. I feel when they read it they will realize they are not alone. Thank you for writing this book.

Good

I think your relatability to this book may be tied to the level of alcoholism your parent may have been at as well as the specific dynamics you had in your family. I related to less than I would have liked, but did find what I did to relate to helpful.
