About this listen

The world's most powerful ascendant thought he'd finally found peace, but relics of the past will force him to face foes both familiar and extraordinary.

Nym has won his freedom and earned himself a comfortable existence. He has everything he needs to thrive, including personal tutoring in the ways of magic from an actual archmage. But just when he thinks the danger is behind him, a figure from his alter ego's past finally tracks him down.

Confronted by a force he could never hope to defeat as his new self, Nym must make a choice between running or accepting the return of his old memories. With them comes Niramyn, the being he was, a being he doesn't want to become again but who might just be his only chance at salvation.

Giving in means gaining the power Nym needs to defend himself against a race of what may as well be gods, but it could also mean the destruction of everything and everyone he's come to love over the last few years of his new life. And of course, it means facing off against the only ascendant to ever figure out how to kill an immortal, a fight he already lost once.

Nym is desperate to find a way to survive, but what can he do against such an overwhelming foe? And is it really survival if he has to pay the ultimate price?

a time travel story that's good

easy to understand and actually takes advantage of characters that can time travel at will

Absolutely splendid

Must admit I didn't expect such twists but was very pleased with the outcome.

I don't think I could have enjoyed it more

from the narration and the solid plot movement, interesting world mechanics and ending on some high note with room for interpretation on certain relationships and future development if the author decides to come back to this title. I'm glad the recovery of memory's wasn't put off another book and all the stuff after. the book was just so full of substance and thought. I really hope another book comes out with Nim as the protagonist again

Time travel makes the story and character fall apart

Generally decent book. The time travel is incoherent and ruins. The main characters motivations it is not clearly explained why the Nym can’t use time travel to resolve the problems he faces. The obstacles in his way should not even phase him. It’s like a 747 hitting turbulence because it flies over a speed bump on Main Street 10,000 feet below the plane…

(Full Series Opinion)

Overall it was good! not great, but good. I'd recommend it to most cultivation style books enjoyers. It doesn't get too hentai like some books do, though this one did have a rather odd interaction. which I'll get into in a moment. trying to be spoiler free, it's a good unique story with a unique magic system and such.

now for the spoilers. I do not understand what was up with that girl in the beginning and best I understand she was forgotten. maybe it was the fox so okay I could see that but in that case I'd thought it would've taken down the path of falling in love with the fox. would've been an interesting dynamic, but instead it just kinda vanishes. like some other topics in this book in particular, it felt so rushed. there were a bunch of repeats of things, like I swear he repeated some thing or another a dozen times throughout the book which was a bit annoying. also the magic system seemed at first to be really unique and thought out, but we never really got further into it. this book treats magic like spell levels in DnD vs the in world reality it was. Sure there was some flavor text but we are literally going into a layer and we can't expand why this did this or that?

perhaps this isn't the last book in the series, which is fine. it felt rushed but a decent send off if it were. I felt like it could've been better, but again it was good so I won't complain too much.

Too much “cultivation”

I am starting to grow tired of author’s who think chapter after chapter of describing philosophical fake cultivation theories is entertaining writing. Future authors: Please build around the plot you start a series with and skip the cultivation writing slog that has ruined so many series.
