About this listen

Something in the water?

Marnie Somerset's new job at the Mystic Springs Library seems almost too good to be true. Yes, the small Alabama town is populated with more than its share of odd people, and she did have a flat tire on her way into town and hallucinate Bigfoot crossing the road, which made for less than a stellar start. But the library is fantastic, her new house is charming, and the hot local writer keeps crossing her path.

In more ways than one.

Clint Maxwell is drawn to the new librarian, even though he knows getting involved with someone from outside Mystic Springs would be a very bad idea. Marnie's not a Springer, and she won't last long in a town awash with magic. Still, when she's threatened he feels compelled to protect her. Is she meant to be his? Is this the woman he's been waiting for?

I liked the uniqueness of the storyline, but it was a bit trite. I know it is too keep this a fun light-hearted mystery, but more meat might have made this easier to want to listen to. Guess I'm not a cozy mystery girl.

unique storyline

While the story started off a bit slow, what it lacked in speed it made up for in pace. Everything happened at great intervals! The characters were cute, the hunter obnoxious as he was meant to be. Overall, a good read!

Good read!

This story seems to skim the depths of relationships and story. It goes very quickly. No spice at all. There was the talk of it.

Different for me

Loved the story, the premise, and the characters..... narration really killed the story. I almost turned it off over and over because of the lackluster voice. Disappointing

Disappointing Narration

The story was fun. The narrative was not good almost to the point of ruining the story.

might as well just use virtual voice when the narration is this bad. almost impossible to tell whether the story is decent bcos can't get past the lack of effort by the narrator. this is the voice I use to read stories to children when I've never read the book before. when being paid to read, narrators should make the effort to at least familiarise themselves with the text before they record. the best narrators are voice actors, who obviously work out in advance how they have interpreted each line of the text so they know where to put emphasis etc. so why 2☆ for narration?? no obvious mispronunciation or grammatical errors - believe it or not, I've heard worse than this; but this was painful. I only 'finished' bcos used as a sleep story. 3☆ for the story was me being generous - as I say, it's extremely difficult to tell whether the story is decent when the narration is this bad; but my impression was of a decent plot, if a little simplistic (and only if you like this sort of thing). might be an interesting series but I'd only try it if they get a better narrator

terrible narration

I enjoyed reading this book so bought the audiobook assuming it would be just as enjoyable. I was wrong. The narrator is fine when doing dialogue but reads the narrative with a sing-songy style that is like nails on the chalkboard to me. I hoped I would get used to it but it just goes on and on. I'm not sure I will be able to finish listening to it.
