About this listen

Our future. Noncitizens and individuals of low social standing can only find work in one place: the virtual world of Disgardium. And that might mean mining ore; it could just as well mean cleaning pigsties or washing dishes in a tavern, but that's about as glamorous as it gets.

Fifteen-year-old schoolboy Alex has dreams of working as a space guide. All he can think about is the stars, but life gets in the way, and now his only path to achieving that goal is through the game.

Just a really good listen

this was a really fun LitRPG novel. The system wasn't overdone and in your face. Characters are interesting and well developed. I am very excited that there are multiple novels in this series.

I listen to book upon boob upon book. Some books I enjoy some I do not. It has been a while since I found one that I enjoyed the narrator and the story so much. I look forward to the next ... soon I hope ..

An Adventure like no other

Alex and his narration takes you on an adventure like no other. This virtual world is made of all different sorts of creatures and races. Knowing that Alex has a secret and he tries desperately to keep it from his friends and family. This story makes you want to root for the underdog / loner as he gets his long game revenge.

New & Different!

My first book with this author and I wasn't disappointed, the story is nuanced and engaging. My only critique is that it skews to GAMERS, reason for only 4stars. I'm not a gamer, but the story explains this facet easily, while slightly repetitious. I truly the evolution of Alex and how he's becoming a THREAT. Totally worth the listen as the narrator is engaging and keeps a great sense of urgency. I was never bored and always wanted to see how the story unfolds.

some people write 2 page reviews of the first hour

that longwinded 1 star guy literally writes a crazy long review and implies what he describes is "the book" when that only lasts a few chapters.

the character stops feeling sorry for himself less than 1h in and NEVER in the 8 books in the series I've listened to does he go back to that loser mentality.

and the reviewer fails to mention that he only had this mentality cause *he was FORCED to play and did not want to!!* --
and would have stopped soon to take a job for the Mars mission.
so playing a dumb game was pointless. until things changed.

it's really dishonest to portray one if the most intelligent, courageous and capable MCs in litrpg history to be a whiner. he never whines, not even when he goes through literal hell in book 5 or so.

he just wins, not whines. through taking chances and outplaying everyone.
