Publisher's summary

Lucas’ job doesn’t end when the tour does. Now, he has to prepare his adventurers for war.

The Omen's first foray into Centerpoint Dungeon has failed, but Lucas knows that won't be the end of it. He has to prepare himself for the storm that's brewing—all while continuing to manage his dungeon, doing everything from running his tours to committing large-scale counterfeiting to holding a singing competition.

There are enemies on all sides. The dungeon lies within an oppressive kingdom that refuses to acknowledge any of its countless wars. To the south lies the Omen of death, eager to consume it all. Still unknown threats verge towards Centerpoint.

Thanks to Lucas’ efforts, his allies increase in number and power to match their perils. Only together can they navigate the troubled times ahead of them.

Few Bad Things Cause Steep Decline

The last 1.5 hours were completely subpar, but the issues go deeper than that. The characters feel flat and their primary motivations feel hollow. Author felt the need to shoehorn relationships that didn't really work or feel earned.

The relationship between Ryan and Troy is especially bad. It manages to remove all personality from both characters: going from driven, capable, well-written/well meaning characters with individual drives to 'we can't dedicate time to training, we need to boink (insert implied s*x joke)' every single time.

Seriously, I can count on a single hand the dialog that either character has that's not answering for both. I can count on 2 hands the total dialog lines of both characters. It really seemed like the author got tired of writing them and figured this was an okay compromise.

Lucas is less decisive in everything. He especially turns into an idiot where Rose is concerned (and the last 1.5 hours).

Class upgrades are cool. I wish more was done with this. Very little actually mattered. Only 1 of Lucas' mattered and it somehow turned him evil, no indication that classes control you personally prior. The rules are repeatedly broken.

"Omen can't enforce his will onto the world too often because it's terribly taxing" - one sec let him finish his machine gun fire of instant death, this is totally within the known rules. And - "Oh everyone is dying, I'm glad the only person to lose anything in class advancement is me. I don't need revive, sure let me keep all other abilities of the old class except the major one on my path itself"

Writing style itself is still good. So many cool ideas are brought up here that I hope to continue the series. I just hope he fixes the obvious flaws. Needless deaths also don't add anything, the characters are so 2d that I felt very little if what was supposed to be high impact (the cause is needless, nothing changes either way)

Can’t wait for the next one!

Performance was spectacular (as always from Travis Baldree!) and I’m really excited to see where the story goes from here!

Brought to tears by the power of friendship

Not a joke. I'm dead serious. I'm a 36 year old man who cries actual tears listening to the climax of this book while the Avengers theme song played in my head. 10/10

It was a rush job

The narrator was great as we would expect from him. That said, the story line really just rushes way too much. The Omen is literally never explained. The incompetent king, never explained. This story should have been broken into multiple books with much more detail.

That was emotional highway robbery.

The danger felt insulated in a way at the start of the book because the hero always swoops in to save the day. Until..... It was masterfully done and I am going to start the sequel soon, but damn that was rough. ggz

Just OK

It was a bit of a slog to finish. But overall OK. I think I nodded off for a bit and did not miss much.

Great continuation from book 1

I really enjoyed the progression of the main character and love to see that there is more to come with the character. The narrator was on point as always.

No business being this good

Literally got goosebumps towards the end. The world building, combat, characters, and plot all got a boost in this book. I can’t wait for the next one.

Even better than book one.

Book one was great fun and full of action. This book kicks it up a notch with much higher stakes and so many more characters and teams. Not sure if a book 3 is in the works but I hope so.
