Incredible resource

I am a personal trainer who was looking for a resource to pass along to clients who wanted to dive deeper into fat loss and this most definitely is it. The book is informative, extensive and so enjoyable to read. I devoured it and even with a background in the fitness industry it still taught me a whole lot. Highly highly highly recommend.

Easy to understand and real data

There are so many biased and contradicting articles and research about nutrition. This book summarizes many of them and why that is. It helped me better understand what I need from my diet plan to make it work for me.

Great book for anyone hoping for the truth about fat loss!

Ben Carpenter tells it like it is. Fat loss is a difficult topic to fully understand with so many nuances that it is impossible to have a one size fits all program for those looking to lose fat (which Ben wonderfully points out is different from weight loss). He is knowledgeable and informative with lots of good information that is backed up by scientific research papers. He also is very clear about making sure that the reader understands the pitfalls of certain strategies and even advises that fat loss might not be right for everyone. He has quite a pleasant speaking voice so it was wonderful to have his company while on my commute to work each day. I definitely recommend this book as well as following him on social media. He keeps it real, debunks the myths that others are trying to sell you and overall really wants what is best for you as an individual. Thanks Ben for your hard work on this book!

What a great resource

I liked that Ben goes through everything that’s popular about fat loss to see what is hype and what is real. If you have ever felt like the information on fat loss (weight loss) is not consistent, listen to this book and hopefully you’ll see what makes sense and what doesn’t. This book goes not only into the science of diets but also brushes on psychology that affects calorie intake. I found that I held some beliefs that were incorrect. And some other things I believed were reaffirmed. In a world that tries to sell the one diet that fits all, I think this is as close as it gets to a fits most resource.

Clears the confusion of fat loss!

There are so many aspects to fat loss that are obscured by social media and marketing, this book breaks each issue down in it's own chapter. It frustrates me that it has taken me this long to learn what I should focus on and what is just influencer nonsense or unhealthy behaviour. Honestly, this has helped clarify ALL the things I was unsure about.

I'm already recommending it to people when they tell me they are trying to lose weight...

The author's approach is straightforward, easy to understand and understanding that everyone is different and we can't be grouped by one rigid solution. Because of this book I am now equipped with the knowledge of assessing where I am, what I can improve on and focussing on my reason why I want to do this...

Best health book I have read

Wow where to start? I grew up in the 90s with disordered eating, super thin super models and unrealistic unhealthy weight loss ideas.
I have followed Ben for a while on social media and decided to get his book. Lots of information, science to back it up, and realistic ideas of how to use this knowledges in your everyday life without sacrificing your mental health and happiness for a few pounds.
I found the chapters on alcohol and sugar particularly helpful since there is so much misinformation about these these topics specifically.
No more fear mongering, just great science presented in an easily accessible and at times entertaining manner.
Also, Ben was a great narrator to listen to, highly reccomend. This is the only audio book I have ever taken the time to review but I think more people should have this knowledge.

Ben Carpenter is the Emily Oster of fitness and weight loss, with more cursing

I love the data support approach that Ben takes in outlining what data has supported weight loss and also when a certain approach doesn’t make a significant difference. There are so many studies that he cites that there isn't a feeling of cherry picking. What I loved the most was that by the end of the book, I didn't feel like I was pushed toward any direction in regards to weight loss, I just felt informed and empowered to make my own decisions.

The book sub title says it all!

In this book, Ben Carpenter has used his decades of experience in the fitness world breakdown the effects of nutrition and exercise & the pitfalls of dieting trends. He's not selling anything and presents the information clearly with references to legit research. This book also addresses the psychological issues associated with food that many people struggle with everyday.

More than just a fat loss book.

There's a lot of diet/fat loss info out there, and it can get really confusing how to approach different choices and protocols. This book really helped me focus in on what really matters, and figure out what my idea of healthy is. Any book that emphasizes doing what works well for your own body is a hit for me. The author took it a step further and had a caring, personal tone throughout the book, which was refreshing. Thank you so much!

Incredibly Comprehensive and Bullshit-Free

Such a rare find - Ben is incredibly informed and cites countless studies to back up his points and views, presenting the reader with all the facts to allow them to make their own individualized conclusions. Highly recommend
