About this listen

Christian Book Award - Finalist 2022 (print)!!

When doctors told Danielle Walker that food didn’t cause her autoimmune disease and couldn’t help control it, she set out to prove them wrong.

Diagnosed with an extreme form of ulcerative colitis at 22, Danielle was terrified she’d never be able to eat all the wonderful, great-tasting foods she loved growing up or host warm, welcoming gatherings with family and friends. So when the medicine she was prescribed became almost as debilitating as the disease itself, Danielle took matters into her own hands, turned her kitchen into a laboratory, and set to work creating gut-healthy versions of the foods she thought she’d never be able to enjoy again. Three New York Times bestselling cookbooks later, Danielle has become a beacon of hope for millions around the world suffering from autoimmune diseases, food allergies, and chronic ailments.

Now for the first time, with stunning transparency about the personal toll her illness took on her physically, emotionally, and spiritually, Danielle reflects on everything she’s learned during her decade-long journey toward healing―including the connection between gut health and overall well-being, the development of her favorite recipes, and the keys for not simply surviving her autoimmune disease but thriving despite it. Through her resilience, Danielle tells a story that provides hope―hope that despite your ailments or hardships, you can live a full, happy, and healthy life without ever feeling excluded or deprived.

Food saved Danielle Walker. And it can save you, too.

Includes six fan-favorite recipes and the stories behind them!

LOVED THIS

This book started with the perfect life. As a person whose life is not perfect, I started this read rolling my eyes. BUT, Danielle’s frank, vulnerable story is so powerful. There is so much to being afflicted by something that is so rude, impactful, debilitating and out of our control. Danielle’s approach helped me see that I am not alone, gave me hope, and allowed me to embrace my frustration. Thank you for sharing.

loved it!

I loved it. Listened from start to finish. h
Knowing she was reading it herself was even more memorable. I could palpate her emotion and got teary eyed hearing her voice break during certain parts. I highly recommend!

Suffering and Gods grace.

Danielle Walker has been through so much suffering with ulcerative colitis an autoimmune disease and yet she is able to share her struggles in such an open and honest way that is relatable and even encouraging. She’s learned so much through her struggles and yet she has an insight and understanding that others will find helpful. I would encourage anyone who feels discouraged or even unable to cope with their situation to listen to her story. It’s an amazing one!

Love the authenticity

What a breath of fresh air in a world where there are filters to change how we look, "reality tv" that is scripted, and creative marketing tactics to make you think something about a product that isn't true. Danielle lays it all out there about her journey with autoimmune disease, the impact it has had not only on her life, but also on her family, and how she is still alive to help so many more people struggling with autoimmune disease, chronic illness, or is the caregiver of someone who is. This memoir had me laughing, crying, and everything in between. No matter where you are in your journey, this book is a blessing. Thank you Danielle for writing this and helping me feel less alone in my journey with autoimmune disease.

I’m so inspired and hopeful now!

I just listened to this entire book today, the day of release (9/14/21). I needed to hear Danielle’s story. I have been struggling with IBS lately and getting so frustrated with the amount of food sensitivities I currently have at age 41, that I never had before. And the pain. So much pain. I’ve been 80/20 paleo since 2015. That seemed to work for me until a neck injury in November 2020 and then dental work that required antibiotics. My gut hasn’t been the same since. I was just not wanting to go 100% paleo, thinking I’d be giving up so much. But hearing Danielle speak about her experiences made me completely lose the self-pity and start seeing a grain-free, dairy-free diet as a gift, rather than a loss.

I look forward to collecting her cookbooks now because hearing the passion she put into creating her recipes and how much her husband and children loved them too, made me realize there’s a whole yummy paleo world I’ve yet to discover.

I also related so much to her story about her faith. My faith wavered after my 18 year old nephew was killed in a car accident in 2017. I went a long time without praying, but recently started again, along with Bible studies, which I think is what led me to this book. I definitely think this book was an answer to my prayers.

Danielle is such a lovely and kind soul. I loved hearing how her husband has been so supportive and about her beautiful family.

Thank you, Danielle, for the MUCH needed inspiration and for being such a great example with your authenticity, kindness, and passion for good food, faith, family, and healing. And for the shift in my mindset, from self-pity to gratitude.

Story of Hope

I have followed Danielle Walker for 6 years. Her cookbooks are amazing! This is her story of how food helped her find health again. It is a story of illness, faith and taking ownership of your health in partnership with modern medicine. It is a story of hope and you are not alone. I highly recommend for anyone who has health challenges.

Inspiring to keep moving forward

Excellent. Reminds me that this is a jagged path to healing, not a simple straight line. I continue to work through issues related to my UC healing including food intolerances, SIBO and Histamine Intolerance. This book is a blessing. Thank you.
