About this listen

Hardwiring Happiness: The New Brain Science of Contentment, Calm, and Confidence shows you how to tap the hidden power of everyday experiences to change your brain and your life for the better.

This bias evolved to help ancient animals survive, but today it makes us feel needlessly frazzled, worried, irritated, lonely, inadequate, and blue. Instead, in just a few seconds at a time in the flow of daily life, you can turn your experiences - the pleasure in a cup of coffee, the accomplishment in finishing a tricky email, the warmth from a friend's smile - into lasting inner strengths built into your brain, such as resilience, balance, and positive emotions.

Grounded in neuroscience, Hardwiring Happiness is super-practical, full of easy-to-use methods and guided practices to grow a steady well-being, self-worth, and inner peace. And it has special sections on children, motivation, relationships, trauma, and spiritual practice.

The program also covers managing the Stone Age brain for life in the 21st century. It tells you how to take in experiences of your core needs being met, so that you gradually leave the "red zone" of fight-flight-freeze stress and get centered in the brain's "green zone" in which you feel an ongoing ease, fulfillment, and love - even while you deal with life's challenges.

Listened to this book on my audio app, and most have missed a few of the key takeaways. It’s all relatively new line of thinking for me. I will need to read again and digest some of these thoughts. The author is well-informed and immersed in his field, just hard for me to learn and find the aha moments.

I’ll need to read the book rather than listen to audio.

This is actually a recorded lecture instead of the physical book being narrated. Although content is still interesting, they should make it clear that this is not actually the book. If I knew this information prior, I’d have gone for the physical book instead.

Audio book does not correspond to physical book

I think this is meant for a professional audience. It was not always on my level of knowledge. I didn't really resonate with it.

interesting

This book was recommended, so I didn't read the reviews of the audibook. The audio felt like a college lecture. Perhaps the actual hardcopy book is better.

Not what I expected.

As others have said this is not the book of the same title. Can’t be returned and no way to contact Amazon about the error. Very annoying.

Not the book

This recording is NOT the book. It’s a conference that presents the concepts way too fast. Frequently throughout the audio, the author/presenter takes giant gulps of water without covering the microphone! It’s soooo disgusting!

I thought I bought a reading of the book. But, it was a taped talk he gave at a Buddhist Center. In Part 1, instead of covering what was in the book, he was asking the people what they wanted to hear. In Part 2 he gave a talk and answered questions. He didn't cover Red Brain, Green Brain or 12 Jewels etc. (although there was 1 reference.) He mentioned many Buddhist ideas; some he explained and some he didn't. He was an interesting and humorous speaker. He sounded very knowable. I bought the Audible version so I good hear it before buying it as a gift. Now I'll look for another book.

Taped Talk instead of book I was disappointed.

As the other reviews state, a presentation by the author based on some of the same concepts of the book (presumably). Not what I was expecting or interested in.

Not An Audio Book

This appears to be a recording of lectures/seminars by the author, so they are audio first. I liked the style and substance of the material. Most of the talk is founded on the principle of Budha's teachings. I intend to look in-depth at Budha's teaching based on the book.

Great lecture / seminar
