About this listen

King's League is more than a game...it's a way of life.

For recently expelled college dropout Dirk Wilson, picking up and re-selling other player's scraps from cleared dungeons and side quests gone sideways is the only thing keeping him from living on the streets.

Tired of ramen noodles, past-due notices, and feeling like his future is over before it ever started, Dirk decides that if he's going to make something of himself, it'll be within the game, taking advantage of the real-life payouts from selling in-game goods on King's League's River Market.

But the game leaves little margin for error, and Dirk's virtual problems grow as large as his real-life ones as he discovers a powerful conspiracy that impacts players from level one to level 99.

One-million-copy number-one best-selling authors Jason Anspach and JN Chaney team up to tell this action-packed, humorous LitRPG adventure that blends the cheeky fun of Ready Player One with all the adventure and excitement of Elder Scrolls and World of Warcraft.

I've listened to most of Chaney's stuff, but never any of Anspach's. This is a truly awesome change to the typical space opera and military scifi that Chaney has done in the past. I played Warcraft for years (along with Everquest) and this book definitely captures that feeling. It's also nice to see a book that doesn't drop F-bombs every five seconds. I can actually listen to this with my kids and we can all enjoy it. Definitely check it out if you liked Ready Player One, as it has a similar feel to it, but with more attention to detail and a greater emphasis on actual gaming.

I'm looking forward to book 2 already!

this was a fun book. it was about a guy playing an online game. he didn't get sucked into it, just normal game play that really took me back to my rpg days. well written, well performed.

Very good book

A good story though it rambles on at points breaking the immersion in the action.

In all a good story

I loved the progress. Any other series I started would have dragged this nice and tight series starter into at least 3 books. I loves the continuous progress as the stoeybunfolded. the character development is a bit on the low side but makes up for it on feeding you the good stuff where it counts.

It is worth the listen or read!

Great start

I listen to a lot of LITRPG and don't write that many reviews anymore. I really like this book, it feels more like a game then many. The writing style is very mellow and real.

pleasant surprise

enjoyed the walk through and details of the gaming world. loved the in game quotes pulled from other games and movies. felt the story was story was pulled from many games, and that it had brought back many great lost memories from those games.

every gamer should read

I really enjoyed this book!

Mild Spoiler Alert for next paragraph...

The book started out describing the the type of game mechanics I dislike in a game. I was certain I was going to hate the book. Specifically the game mechanics of leveling up and in game death are something I would have a hard time putting up with. The main character states that secondary skills in the game were so fun to play that is why people were willing to put up with the game mechanics. However, I was able to look past this because the main character didn't have to go through the awful drudgery of leveling up in the game that any other player in the world would.

It was a lot fun seeing the main character survive each new trial. I was left wondering if the main character would lose everything and be homeless after every fight. All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable journey.

Really enjoyed this book!
