He is made a Poison Cultivator, a rare class who are shunned by high society.

Unable to continue his medical practice, Sorin turns to adventuring to make ends meet. Though he's only able to afford to team with a ragtag crew of outcasts as companions—An armored polar bear, a stern archer, a sleep-deprived pyromancer, and a peeping-tom rogue. Oh, and a rebellious rat familiar who won’t stop eating the party’s loot when no one is watching.

Things are looking up, until Sorin discovers his ancestor’s hidden research notes about forbidden medical research. What dark deeds was his family up to? Only he can find out... if he and his party can survive the coming Demon Tide.

Great concept

At first I was a bit skeptical about this book but it turned out well. The overall concept was interesting and made for a new fun, entertaining series. The world building and characters were also intriguing and balanced and enhanced the story making it it that more enjoyable. There were a few odd things that confused me but they didn’t hurt the plot. Well done 👍.

Ocher side of the mountain

If you like Painting the Mists you will like this, but it leans towards the Ocher side more then Jade.

Great start!

Very much enjoyed this start to a new series. It does have some growing pains to make it through with some inconsistencies with certain things and the narrator seeming to sometimes use such a similar voice with different character in the same scene as to blur together. That said I finished the whole thing and enjoyed it, can't wait for the next in the series.

Uniqueness

It’s hard to find something this unique. I know it draws upon Ancient Greek mythology, but it does it in its own unexpected and creative way that makes it worth the time spent to read it. Can’t wait for the next one!

Ohhhh what fun! You're gonna need to grab this book and watch Soren start over

Ohhhh what fun. I hadn't read anything by Patrick Laplante before but this book was great. I found that the writing was nice and tight, plus the world building and storyline was good too... for a hot minute I thought that Adam Verner's voice performance was a bit too much but in reality it seemed that he caught the MC, Sorin's character perfectly... Sorin finds his life turned upside down when he asks the God of Hope for help... and yes the god helped, he had to out right stop practicing healing magic something he's done his entire life and join the adventure guild to be a mage poisoner. You can't heal and cultivate poison... or can you???
You're gonna hafta grab on to the book to find out what happens to Sorin and his adventure team and wots'dat a Rat, eeeuu 🐀 where'd he come from?!?

I’ve read all of Patrick’s other books. I really like where the series is going and will definitely be by the next one.

Awesome

Definitely the best cultivation story i have listened this year, I really liked the MC, yeah he started weak but not useless like in so many other stories that the mc needs to be carried for 3 books before being able to defend himself. he is smart and just takes time to change his mentality of being a doctor to one of a cultivator, also the side characters were great and his teammates were quirky but not annoying at all. I honestly can't wait for the next one!

Great story. Great MC.

This is one of the better Cultivation books I have listened to this year. It comes with an MC that is not overpowered. However, he is not so weak that everyone else has to solve his problems. I am super excited for the next book in the series.
