About this listen

Your mind should be your safe zone, not the noisiest place in the world. Restore your inner peace. If you are always on edge and unable to relax, this book is for you. Choose the pace that you want to live life at—you do have a choice. Control your thoughts, life, and control happiness.

The Art of Letting Go is all about organizing the mess in your mind. It's about how to stop focusing on the past that is over, or the future that may never occur, and being present in the situations that you can actually have agency in. It's about how to rewire the anxious connections in your brain and switch your mental programming and beliefs. It's about understanding that our brains are made for 10,000 BC and that you can afford to let your guard down.

It's about trusting that things will be okay, how to control your self-talk, and transform your internal worldview.

Nick Trenton grew up in rural Illinois and is quite literally a farm boy. His best friend growing up was his trusty companion Leonard the dachshund. RIP Leonard.

Eventually, he made it off the farm and obtained a BS in economics, followed by an MA in behavioral psychology.

Here, he provides psychologically proven tips to get out of your mind and into your life:

  • Practicing nonjudgment and observation over your emotions.
  • Untangling the toxic beliefs of urgency and danger in your brain.
  • How to use brain dumping in the most calming way possible.
  • Exercises for self-distancing and externalization: powerful psychological techniques.
  • Defeating your drive for perfection while finding a drive for excellency.

Good

I love the concept of the book and learned a lot from it. Not a fan of the narrator, though. Was a little difficult to keep attention with his monotone voice.

Who is the listener?

I did not like this book or the narration. The narrator’s tone was often condescending and “judgy”. The script constantly changed between “you”, “one”, “oneself”, “the individual” and “they”. The author should have directed the book toward the reader and used “you”. It was very cumbersome and annoying to listen to.

Clear , concise portrayal of voiceover and material.

I enjoyed this book and it has helped me and also given me many tools. These chapters are set up strategically to convey certain messages with different subtopics making it easy to follow and compartmentalize. I will be listening again. Especially to the 2nd chapter and last one. Thank you.

very insightful

It's a really good book I would recommend to anyone who struggles with anxiety and overthinking. personally, I wish the book had delved in to self love and the steps to achieve that, but all in all it was a very Insightful book I know I'll come back and listen to again.

overuse of "one" and "individual"

this book has a major overuse of the words "one" and "individual" when referring to a person. this occurs so frequently it is distracting and after 3/4 of the way into the book, just irritating. The ideas in the book could have been summed up in a much shorter way, even a few lists. The book is also written in a very impersonal manner as though writing about a specimen rather than a person. Overall, learned very few new concepts from this book and felt was a waste of my time.

A hard one to listen to

The narration was so bleak that I had a hard time focusing already from chapter 1. The setting examples felt repetitive to me and quite basic. But I guess it’s good for those who are beginners at trying to be self aware with these emotions. Was a missed with me.
